Match Thread: Port Vale v Swindon Town

Cov has made a mistake. First first sending off was poor football judgement and his second was poor composure. Can blame him for the first one because that’s an innocent mistake and loads of players make them. That leaves the second one alone, which was no worse than what Rodney or Conlon got sent off for. It’s looks worse because it’s a penalty on top and the game’s dead, but the act itself is no worse. He needs to learn and improve, but so do lots of the players in terms of mental and physical attributes. If he comes back and ends up giving someone else the same treatment, then at that point it’s totally unprofessional, but I can’t see that happening. This will be a defining moment in his career at Vale and he will play a big part in our promotion before the season is done.

I can't see how you can't see its not a foul!

This is how he catches it. Normal. One knee up, feet facing the ground. Ball is in his hands. Job done. Drop down like that and restart play.

This is what happens next - his right knee out like a kung fu kick, right angle to his body, studs towards McKirdy. Screenshots don't do justice just how moronic it is. He catches the ball and then decides he's going to stud McKirdy in the stomach. Why on earth would he do that? He's got the ball! Drop down straight! It's not a natural/understandable position however we try and interpret it. There is no reason to have his legs like that.

The more I watch it the more I think it's a moment of sheer madness where he decides to leave one on McKirdy. If you watch the video you see his leg fly, unnaturally, into McKirdy. Stupid and very dirty. Hate to be one of the screenshot lads but its a disgraceful challenge. Would be angry if we were 3-0 up in the 90th minute.

People will know I've backed Lucas to the hilt here all season. I've backed the daft errors he's made. This was appalling and, whether people want to argue about it costing us the game, just isn't on.

hes looking where to land it!!!!!!!!😑

Nah it was a nasty, intentional kick and his second red card of the season, not a one-off mistake. How many chances does he get?

I felt it right he got his place back after the first one.

I don't feel the same this time.

I'd potentially be looking at signing another keeper now.

He gets 4 games for it being his 2nd red card. I can't believe I'm typing this about a goalkeeper, who also got sent off in the last pre-season game.

3 red cards in 23. It is staggering.

Can we ignore the pre season card please. Had that been a League game we would have appealed it and it would have undoubtedly have been rescinded because it was nowhere near a red card. Just look at the reaction of the home fans next to the incident. And we won the game anyway!!!

He played two whole seasons at Torquay and never got a card of any colour. Yes he was daft yesterday but so was Conlon against Walsall, so was Jones against Newport. So was Leon a couple of seasons ago when he was sent off twice. He’ll serve his four game suspension and then have to fight to get his place back but all this reaction about sacking him is in my opinion over the top.

The keeper with the most red cards in the history of the Premier League is Jaaskelainen, who got 4 in 17 seasons, 500 games. Lucas has got 2 in 0.5 seasons, 22 games.

We should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season even with the odd slip up.

It's the "thereabouts" that gives me the heebie-jeebies. I'm sure the owners aren't remotely interested in being the 7th-best side in Division Four, nor would they see it as any kind of achievement or success. Top three has to be the outcome, and in reality there's only two spots left now.

Jordan Pickford was sent off twice in four games when he was on loan at Bradford, one of which was against Vale!

I've watched it over and over again and still don't see how its a foul. I will be interested to hear the verdict of the pundit on Quest.

For me, it was a clear foul. Two movements. First he catches the ball and second he kicks out. He had to go.

Even DC called it stupid.
