I can see Covolan’s right foot there and it doesn’t seem to be near McKirdy’s chest. Would it have been a red between two outfield players??

From my view in the paddock Jean i said he will be sent off as soon as he did it,his studs went into his chest.. he was stupid,a simple catch and then drop with it or let McKirdy clatter into you,he set out to do him imo and being honest earlier in the game i think he tried to do similar with a punch when clearing the ball,oh well got him in the end i guess but from my view it was a clear sending off(maybe the ref thought everyone was chanting for the keeper to go 🙂 )

Yes, no need for his foot to be that high. The ball was in his hands !

McKirdy is doing nothing wrong. A striker should get near the keeper in case he drops it. Goals on Sunday has several goals that result from exactly that error. So he doesn't need a Kung Foo kick; just keep the ball.

We badly missed garrity yesterday in getting up the pitch and driving forward. He did it second half against Brentford and we had a very good 20 minute spell. He didn’t get up at all yesterday. Conlon didn’t want to know either and Pett was anonymous. This is why we created very little first half apart from the wonder strike. We need to get back to basics and get garrity driving forward in support of the front man. We’re not looking good and other teams are flying at the moment. We’re one game off the halfway point and if we happened to lose to Salford then if you had said to me 6 weeks ago at half way we would be 9th or worse I’d have laughed at you. Massive second half of the season needed for us to at least get the top 7.

I think the difference in McKirdy is that it looked like they just tell him to run around the front the front line, drop back if he wants to pick the ball up,just giving him a free reign to do what he wants instead of telling him a position to play in and its working for them and him

The difference in the teams is that they also have Simpson who allows them to play further up the pitch and dictate play.  McKirdy plays off him and brings Williams into the action too.  With Proctor injured we just don't have anyone like this to allow us to play off and get further up the pitch.

I'm as disappointed as anyone in relation to Covolan having stood by his previous errors, I hope that Clarke dishes out his punishment and he returns to the side when he feels it's right to do so.  I'm not so convinced with Stone.  I think that there's a really decent keeper there but he's got to cut out stuff like this.

What are the chances of us bringing a keeper in on loan now? I very much doubt the youth keeper will be on the bench. If stone got injured first minute Tuesday night, would we really be wanting a youth  keeper to play the next four games?

It goes into his stomach very clearly on the video. He moves it very deliberately so he could stud him. His foot shoots out after he collects the ball.

It's a red for any player at any level. I say this as the biggest Covolan fan.

There’s a lot of ifs and buts! However we were poor very fortunate to get the game back to one all with a wonder strike. Could we have turned it around second half with eleven men ? I don’t know we were so far off the pace I doubt it. We were given a real footballing lesson, the only positive I can take if anyone was watching our players with a view to buying would be very disappointed. Williams for them was by far and away better than anyone we have.

How Swindon have turned around there start of season mayhem and problems to be up there is truly an unbelievable achievement. All credit to there management and players. Let’s hope this game is a kick up the pants and we can start performing for 90 minutes and not 45

Stone has good potential but neither him or Cov are a no. 1 keeper in L2 IMO for a team with promotion ambitions.

Its the one area of the pitch we really lack league experience and should be addressed.

Lot of good debate on here . I too have been in the Cov camp but yesterday obviously did cost us the game in as much as the penalty put them ahead v 10 and changed Clarkes tweaks.

Not wholly convinced on Stone, dreadful flapping v Brentford from which they hit the bar and doesn't give me much confidence.

It's a big problem for Clarke to sort. Let's remember though that Cov wasn't sent off for Torquay last season so it's not like he brought the baggage here .

Obviously Benning unlikely to play again despite Hussey showing nothing that Benning couldn't do. He needs to be found a suitor and if Walker isn't the answer then we need a midfield destroyer .

I asked a friend who is a Shrewsbury Town season ticket holder about Walker. He said, I vaguely remember the name but I don't remember him doing much. He remembers Antony Grant though and couldn't believe that we let him go.

I've not seen a keeper as commanding in the air as Cov in years he's also a decent shot stopper and his distribution is decent too.  He's decent for L2 IMHO.

He's cut out the dribbling bit and puts his foot through it now.  Yesterday was just bloody stupidity though.

I've watched it over and over again and still don't see how its a foul. I will be interested to hear the verdict of the pundit on Quest.

He had the ball and usually a goalie has his leg bent ready for the landing.  Covolan lead with his foot out, made no attempt to pull his leg back and made contact with their player.  He had plenty of time to pull his leg in, but never did.

This gave the ref no other choice but to deem it dangerous play.  If Covolan had his leg bent then you would have seen a different outcome and their player being warned or even a yellow card for a foul on the goalie.

We used to practice this scenario in training sessions and the coach always said if you lead with your foot, you could end up injuring yourself in the hip and/or knee.  Then when you hit the deck after the contact you could injury yourself from the landing or knock the wind out of yourself as your probably going to land off balance.  Hence always lead with a bent leg as you are ready for the landing.

Think grant wanted to leave rather than us let him go, Walkers level is probably league 2 to be fair rather than league 1
