Match Thread: Bristol Rovers v Port Vale

The frustrating thing is, that were it not for basically two made spells (Sutton and Oldham) we would be 6 points better off and 10 clear of 8th place meaning that this upcoming period of matches wouldn’t look quite so daunting. Small margins can make such a difference even it the end of a 46-game season.

It was nerve shredding because of Sutton and Oldham.

We just lost control for a spell. Can't speak for others but I kept glancing over my shoulders at the clock on the scoreboard even against 9. I also expected far more than 4 minutes injury time.

It's vale we don't do things easy.

Ps literally with one second to go there was what looked an horrendous challenge on Gibbo. Worthy of a 3rd red to me. All irrelevant now.

I thought that was after the final whistle.

We have won on a tues night league match .

Fantastic win that as joey Bartons no mug shame we didn't carry on with second half display like first but I think DC with BR fans loving him as said to the players come off the throttle I'm well thought of here I'd like it stay that way .

Garrity 2 well taken goals they have had 1 shot on target all game take that's the goal that's a brilliant win no familiar with Vale winning often at BR

All without lots of striking options as well highly impressive .Big well done to the travelling fans glad you got the result you and the  Vale deserved 6 on target 4 off tells me all I need know .

Thought first half was the best I've seen the Vale play this season, movement and passing were superb, players wanted the ball, Conlon outstanding, Politic's footwork scarily good, Garrity's running and the organization and shape of the team was excellent. Yep it was against 10 men but they were chasing shadows and at times I thought they were just admiring Vale's play it was so good. Different kettle of fish 2nd half though.

Didn't help with Worrall and Rodney going off, they played another 10-15 yards up the pitch.  Cass wingback not the same as Worrall, I thought that they had far more room to bring it out from the back.  Garrity tired a little and Conlon ended up playing right wing.

We never really got hold of the ball but they created very little, 1 deflected shot for the goal and a very dubious penalty call.

Had we really wanted to go for it towards the end rather than taking it into the corners then I'm sure that it would have been more convincing.

You should watch what you're saying. That's a ridiculous suggestion.

I'm not surprised that Rovers came back on us - however ineffectively - in the second half. With Joey Barton as manager how could they do anything else? They'd all have ended up in the next episode of Casualty if they'd have upset him any more.

Rodney's out for Newport then as Garrity's just said DC wants him up front on the weekend.

He didn't say any of that. He said he was told at the weekend that he would be playing up front vs Bristol Rovers, which he did. It's nothing to do with if Rodney will be fit for the weekend, hopefully we can go with a front 3 again of Politic, Garrity & Rodney.

Although the second half was painful to watch and should of been a lot easier the main thing is we got the 3 points and dug deep. We missed the width that Woz offers us when he went off. Massive mention for Garrity he covered every blade of grass and caused their defence so many issues. Could of easily got a hat trick. He is exactly the type of player that us fans crave, he may not be the most technically gifted player in the squad but he makes up for it with his sheer work rate and endeavour. Chuffed to bits for him to grab two goals and win us that game for the second time this season and makes him joint top scorer in the league alongside Proctor. Hoping Woz and Rodney will somehow he available Saturday I’d snap your hand off for a draw as I would of taken 2 points from this game and Newport given the current state of our squad, so for me Newport is a freebie.

A few thoughts form that very entertaining game played in wet and wild conditions.

1. In first half against 10 men i think we did a good job of using the width of the pitch. Thought we'd make hard work of it but we dominated.

2. Without worral and rodney on the pitch we looked clueless going forwards. It's a real concern for the newport game. Nothing stuck upfront and no one knew who was responsible for what in attack.

3. Looking at tonight's bench makes you realise how depleted we are. If we go behind at newport, how do you change things up?

4. Finally i enjoyed all the pirate related chants. Not sure whether it is audiobable on i-follow but rovers do the usual 'your ****' goal kick thing but then make pirate noises for about a minute or two after. It was funny hearing vale fans make pirate noises back after set pieces

Yep, I think these are absolutely the sort of games you need to win if you're going to be in the promotion shake-up. We got a win despite all the injuries.

I thought the first-half display was excellent with Conlon running the show and Garrity running a lot (and scoring).

It's an away win too which I would think really helps ease the pressure ahead of two tough games.

I bet DC can't wait for the January window to open though - if Worrall and Rodney are ruled out for Newport, the only non-defensive sub on the bench is likely to be Scott Burgess as all the others will be in the starting XI.

Well maybe not second best.  Just didn't look a player up, or two even.  I wasn't sure what we trying to do second half. But we won. So that is all that matters. UTV

Yeah, we were pretty shocking in the second half and stopped playing football, but you also have to give Rovers a bit of credit too I suppose.
