All good comments Valiant_593 and that without considering the bowlers. This is quite possibly Andersons last tour and Broad is not getting any younger. That 1,100 wickets leaving the side and the cornerstone of our bowling attack for the last 10 years.. And who do we have lined up, Woakes - no, Wood - too injury prone, Archer may never come back. All we really have to build on is Robinson who actually looks like a good prospect. But we are desperately short of ny sort of quality spin and we only seem to produce 80mph seamers.

Our bowling prospects are as dim if not dimmer than that batting.

In terms of bowlers, I quite like the look of George Garton, who is fast, can bat a bit and is also a leftie. Surely, it's now time to give Matt Parkinson a go as the spinner - he's consistently done well in the Championship.

Right now, I'd definitely have Livingstone in the middle order. He has a better FC ave than most of the England squad and can provide another spin option.

I've not really seen much of Harry Brook but he keeps being mentioned as does Josh Bohanan of Lancs who is seen as a Collingwood-esque battler who will tough it out.

Things are a bit bare in the opening spots but Warwickshire's Rob Yates keeps getting mentioned. So perhaps Yates and Hameed with Malan continuing at three may be an option? I'd also definitely give Foakes a run as wicket.

Now none of those may be the answer but then again the ones we have now clearly aren't the answer either!

Not seen some of them, but I would completely agree with Foaks. Looked capable with the bat when given the chance and is a decent keeper.

And anyone who can stick around is a vital element we are missing. I'm not bothered about these great shot makers, Pope etc. How many Aussie crickets have a wonderful looking cover drive - possibly none. Give me someone who can hang around ala, Collingwood or Trott.

Good luck to anyone who watches or listens in a couple of hours time.

The problem is we have a lot of players who are just not good enough. Even a second string Aus team are humiliating us. But we don't even get the best out the  thin gruel we have, to give them a game. . Now it is just a feeling of sadness, we can't even give them a game.

Drop Pope butler and broad and bring in Lawrence foakes and wood.

Foakes isn’t over there, wouldn’t drop Buttler after that knock showed some decent fight there. I’d drop pope for bairstow, put him at 7 and as keeper and butler as a number 6 batsman

Keep Burns? Is that simply because the replacement (Crawley) is arguably even more of a walking wicket?

I'm going to be controversial and say I'm not sure what to do with Pope. The problem with Bairstow is he's 32 and has a problem with his open stance in Test cricket. I know Pope deserves to be dropped but he has so much potential, more than Lawrence (the only other alternative to replace him) so I wonder if Pope gets one more chance?

I'd still drop butler as he isn't a good enough wicketkeeper missing easy catches. Yeah he hung in there for a while today but only made 26 runs so it's not exactly a great score. If foakes isn't in the squad then who is the back up keeper for this series? I hope it's not bairstow as he is just as bad at test level

Yeah we got no choice but to keep Burns and hameed in for now as there's nothing else in the squad good enough put in place of them. Crawley only averages 11 in test cricket this year and I think something like 28 in his test record to date so nowhere near good enough.

This is the squad BTW...

The Lions have been sent home although a handful are involved in the Big Bash - but it would be an odd move to ignore members of the squad and bring in someone from outside it. Especially as that player would only have been playing T20 recently.

That said - the make-up of that squad is just dreadful. Neither spinner has done enough to be in contention. The only back-up opener hasn't done anything since a single big score 18 months ago.

So, the squad options are:

Unused batsmen - Crawley, Lawrence, Bairstow

Unused bowlers - Wood, Overton, Leach, Bess

 :sos:
