Absolute nonsense mate. Get a grip.

Conceded the 4th least in the division. Won 10 of our last 13. 2nd in the table. Recruitment at the back has been good.  Utter rubbish and reactionary foolishness. Were you on the forums saying this when we were putting 3-4-5 past everyone? Or just today when a decent side scored a decent goal?

I'll let you off this time for the aggressive style of the reply. After a night of sipping WKD's whilst staring at PPDA data it's understandable from you.

I've said throughout the season that our recruitment at the back has been poor. We signed two commanding centre halves to replace/take the pressure off Leon Legge and neither of them are anywhere near as good as him. One of them can't even get in the matchday squad and is in the fanzone helping kids take penalties in a car park. We signed Mansfield's best player of all time who can't get in the team ahead of a raw, 21 year old loanee. We signed a lad from Donny Rovers reserves who occasionally gets a run out against kids in the Pizza Trophy.

I'm as ecstatic as anyone how things are going this season. Thankfully Nathan Smith has become a truly horrible CB over the past 6 weeks and is leading that backline in superb fashion. Dan Jones has been an exceptional signing and is a joy to watch. Let's not be so high that we can't acknowledge that Johnson, Martin, Benning and Amos have been underwhelming.

To be fair to Benning he can’t get in starting 11 because of Gibbos form.

Someone’s got to step up this week in Smiths absence though.

I don't know what PPDA data means but I can't be doing with WKD's. In my defence, my inebriated aggression got a lot of 'likes', implying more people seemed to agree with my points than disagree.

I don't think Martin has been that bad - for his poor performance vs Rochdale he was excellent v FGR against the division's best forward. Seems alright to me.

Cass and Jones both very good signings - Johnson and Benning poor. Amos is a young lad and merely a bit of squad depth so cannot really be judged.

Considering Smith and Gibbons are long-term assets, defensive recruitment didn't need to be outstanding/revolutionary this summer. We've signed two good players and two poor ones, with Martin, in my eyes, constituting an OK League 2 defender. I don't think its a poor window. We've got a good defensive record.

I don’t think anyone was signed as a direct replacement for Legge.  Martin was probably signed for his height but also as more of a ball player than Legge.

Of the 4 defenders you mention, Johnson and Amos were chancers, most likely to be squad players who we can, with a bit of luck, develop.  Martin and Benning are the experienced pros and more likely pressing for a first team spot, but, as has been said, the excellent form of others has kept them out more than simply their own poor form.

I think the surprising thing this season is that many fans thought we’d signed all these 6 footers in preseason, so we’d be a team of giants.  In actual fact a surprising number of teams have dwarfed us and this is possibly why the absence of Big Leon has been so noticeable.

The one that got my goat was the bear hug on Worrall and he was thrown to the floor. The linesman ( can I say that ! ) stood oblivious to it.

I reckon the ref had words with the linesman before a bit like kids Sunday football..” I just need you to flag for offside and I will ref the game”

Its the only plausible explanation

So you would bring back Legge (30 minutes played in 10 weeks) for Smith. Priceless you are.

I think he's more than capable, numb nuts. It's not like he's the type of player that bombs up and down the pitch anyway. He heads and kicks ball away. That's his job and is what he's good at. He looks after himself and I'm sure can be used, otherwise he wouldn't even be making the bench.

I think Martin has looked pretty average from what I've seen so far, but he will probably start.

He hasn't made the bench in league football since his injury. 20 minutes against 16 and 17 year olds isn't preparation for proper football.

He'll be on the bench tomorrow, so he's fit enough to play a part.
