The first time since Sir John's days that I have just sat and watched such excellent quality football.

James Wilson is a great footballer and getting fitter by the week.

Our midfield is the best in the division.

Great to see a growing attendance in Bycars. Could it be fans who are still a bit nervous of sitting in a crowd are heading for Bycars and some social distancing?

Talking of the Bycars, anyone know why they’ve cut all the trees down behind the Bycars?

wondered if some sort of building work is planned.

It was a beauty. He never scored goals like this for us as I remember. Just one of those that wasn't a fit for Vale, I guess.

I'd say he's never scored one like that in his career. Even Nigel Winterburn scored one worldie for Arsenal many years ago.

Love this post on there forum.

"As for Port Vale, they weren't all that if I'm honest. With a generous slice of whatifery, including not dicking about with the ball on the edge of our own penalty area, and players spending time on the training ground actually finishing chances, we could have won that one 3-1 easy."

Clearly an hole short of a Polo mint that helmet. They could have scored a couple of another day, sure, but we could have scored 5 or 6. I could also be a pornstar if my dick was 5 inches bigger.

Absolutely brilliant. To a man, the whole game, brilliant.

You tell me that’s not a team and a squad catching fire to take the league title?

Totally controlled the game, could have scored more, interlinking down both flanks, dealt with some tricky customers like Nouble without too much hassle.

Strong and dominant throughout, but special mentions to:

Jones: a very special find

Pett: getting better and better, rarely loses the ball, constantly breaking up play and had some attacking flair today

Politic: just give the man the ball, he’ll do the rest, brilliant

Gibbo: nailed on starter and still improving

Really good all-round performance today I thought. Five wins at home in a row and another clean sheet.

I thought lots of the team had purple patches at times. Politic showed glimpses of why he's far better than L2, delighted that Wilson got another goal, Pett and Conlon looked good in midfield, Covolan solid in goal... Gibbo was a deserved MOTM.

Notts County attendance was made up of a big following from Stockport, Grimsby are on a massive high and Chesterfield now second in the league and very similar to Vale. Colchester brought 170 fans today. If Vale keep this up, we'll see a decent increase, especially against the big hitters

Exactly, they were all Vale fans today, against a side with a decent away following that goes up massively by the other team pulling their weight.

Totally agree. I thought Gibbo was a deserved MOTM but Pett ran him the closest - a quality display from him today.

It's great that the side is performing so well and the squad depth is so strong. A strong midfield despite the absence of Garrity and Walker unused on the bench.

Am I right that prior to kick off Garrity was second top scorer ?

If correct we had our top 2 scorers missing and won 3-0 at a canter.

Very promising. Loved Politic first half he was terrific and they didn't have a clue how to handle him.

Wonder why given our form apart from the fact it was quite cold that the crowd dropped by 300-400 .

You're missing out.

Politic was just sauntering around, going where he wants when he wants. Great talent and I would hate to have him against us.

I must admit, as good as we were and credit for our high press, if I was a Colchester fan, I’d be livid at the frequency their defenders just passed it to us, suicidal stuff.

It's generally what happens to most League Two defenders if you don't give them time on the ball. Certainly the centre-backs.

I sat closer than usual today and I could really tell we have that extra quality and composure now, and Pett is one of the most technically gifted we’ve had for a while.

Just call me Neo, because I trust the matrix.

Rob, hope you and family had a great day up in the posh seats. Brilliant Vale must have given you a time to remember.

Yes thanks, the Fielding family had a great time. My thanks to all the Vale staff who served us and Dean Martin (a great host) and Ritchie Bates from the commercial dept for looking after us so well. The meal was delicious and it was also a genuine thrill to have a chat with Carol before the match too. I loved the whole day of course (what a belated birthday present) but I think the children have also been hooked in now which is always a good thing.

The whole experience is brilliant and I can't thank the club enough but obviously the display and result were icing on the cake.

It's good watching the team from up high. You get a real appreciation of both the pressing, passing play and the work that the likes of Pett, Conlon put in. Gibbo was just brilliant when you watch him from up high. I just hope we keep him fit for the rest of the season now.

I've got some nice photos to share from the stadium tour for a future article (while my youngest is delighted to have a signed match ball in her hands).

Crawling up the M42 at 30mph this Saturday morning is now (almost) forgotten. At least this particular six hour round trip was worth it.
