Match Thread: Port Vale v Harrogate Town

It was a very solid performance, the sort of one typical of promotion sides. We never, ever looked like losing this and after the first goal, we looked the only winners.

It was a bit scrappy at times but importantly we had a cutting edge that Harrogate never had.

A quiet game from Covolan and for me his best in a Vale shirt as his distribution of the ball was much better.

Another head injury?

Or, this being the Vale, fine / points deduction coming up?

I think if a team makes a concussion sub, it means the other team gets an extra sub too.

Suppose it would stop teams gaining an unfair advantage if they started 'pretending' to have head injuries.

Can't believe some are moaning about that second half. It was clearly game management designed to kill the game after our second goal. They can do that all season for me if we win at a canter like we did. Contrast that to last season, and the 3 before that, where we'd have been lumping it, losing possession all over the park, and likely have conceded at least 1

Are the rules still 5 subs? haven't they made 4 changes?

From the trial last season it works like below:

"If one team has to make a concussion substitute, they will hand a green card to the referee, and to balance that up, the opposing team will be given a white card so he can use an extra substitute.

Perfect start to the 2nd half virtually ended Harrogate's chances. Pleased for Wilson hope it's the first of many, looks to have loads of time on the ball which is a hallmark of a good player.

Not impressed with Harrogate, didn't seem to have any quality or much of anything, if that's a top 7/top half team then it bodes well for the Vale.

A quick look on the EFL website seems to indicate that exceeding the maximum number of subs is deemed a Strict Liability Offence, which is punishable by a fine.

Great result very accomplished performance, two of the finest goals you will see in the football league. Very happy today made my weekend again. Things are beginning to look much better all round. We have now set the bar I hope we can really push on from here. Well done to DC and the boys put an other shift in again today.
