Match Thread: Port Vale v Rochdale

The real stuff, 2 teams with just an away League win each. Rochdale cup form better with a League cup win, and a 3rd round visit to Burnley on their mind too. Last night, an easy 4 goals against Liverpool Lads, whereas we came from Bolton  with a couple of goals and a good workout, who will benefit the most?  Rochdale finding their feet after last season’s relegation,  expect a tough game. DC no doubt will revert to a full-strength team but which one?  Goals are starting to flow, so 3-0 is not beyond us.

Let's go 4-3-3 and batter them. They'll be upbeat and confident after stuffing Liverpool's kids last night but it was literally men against boys.

Covolan

Jones

Martin

Smith

Benning

Pett

Conlon

Garrity

Wilson

Worrall

Proctor

Subs: Stone, Cass, Gibbons, Walker, Politic, Amoo, Rodney

I like the formation and I do think Clarke will chop and change for each game accordingly.

For me, if it was a back four I'd rather have Smith and Jones (hopefully not providing much comedy) in the centre and one of Cass or Gibbons on the right.

How long as it been since its hard to pick a starting 11 with the squad we've got emoji41.png and we haven't even had the chance watch politic yet

The way Bolton fans have spoke about him when he joined us, it would be silly not to start him and give him a chance sooner rather than later.

Politic off the bench winning, losing or drawing must be on the agenda now. He’s played reserve football and all that <ovf censored> and had a pre-season, throw him in.

Same team that started FGR apart from swap Conlon for Walker. Nothing against him but dropping Garrity would pretty much be telling him “however you play you’re never going to be in front of these other centre mids.”

I suppose drop Pett and have Walker holding maybe. That variation is the only change though and Rodney will have to show what he’s about to get back in because to be honest I think he gets away with bad games that others wouldn’t.

Big game home game aswell always a tough nut Rochdale are ,looking forwards to it regardless even if I'm still on holiday or not as could be heading home early on day of the match or evening at end of day I will be watching somehow or other even if I have to pay a extra tenner to do so as already have a season ticket which lad will use if not back and might use when I am back if tired after long drive home from Truro.

Team well has anyone done enough get in last night 3 goals conceded seen them were very poor from a team point of view all 3 avoidable

Having not watched the last 3 games I'm not going insult folk by choosing a team I think DC will know the team to get the 3 points.

Be nice for them win a home game it's been so long  since we last did and that was lucky v Morecambe I think .

HERES HOPING .

come on Vale

It would be hard to change the team that won at FGR, but with Conlon back (and scoring) Amoo looking like he might get a few goals this season and Gibbons returning, the temptation might be there. Politic must also be due some game time. We suddenly seem to have more options than I can remember for a long time.

I think that Conlon has to start, but at who's expense? Wilson and Proctor to start up front too, leaving Rodney to terrorise their defence for the last quarter of the game.

I'm looking forward to this one.

Test for DC selling Rotation in L2.

Only lost 4 of 17 games since Crosby joined the management team. Won 9. Conceded 9 in that time. Promotion form.

We have a nicer run of fixtures now up till the end of November, with tests against Orient, Mansfield, and Bradford but otherwise games we can put some points on the board with.

Gibbo, Conlon, and Taylor returning to match fitness is a boost, along with Politic's increasing match sharpness, and hopefully Robinson's departed wages gives us a bit of room to work with in the free agent market at centre half.

I'll be bold; we're set up for a good run now. We've come out of a tricky opening spell intact, not lost too much ground and established a good defense. We've had 7/8 new signings and a new system to implement. I may (for once) be seen as an unfailing optimist and defender of this new regime but things just feel to be slotting into place now.

Covolan to fully get over his slight jitters and Wilson to bag and I'll be lumping on the title.
