Booing a young lad because he injured a player is silly. On that basis, John McCombe should have been abused every week after he broke a lad's leg in two places. It's an aggressive sport; injuries happen. Move on.

I hope to see Cass and Benning tonight. I think they both have a lot to offer this season.

I went to Sunderland v Wigan on Saturday.

They were really shaky first 15. They had a 19 year old midfielder filling in at LB and a 17 year old CB making his debut at CB (on loan from Man City). Wigan were too neat and tidy for them when they played it on the floor and it's an area we could look to exploit. They did get stronger as the game went on with the encouragement of 30k home fans, but we should try to exploit that inexperience.

Going forward, McGeady and Gooch were predictably their danger men with Ross Stewart looking like a real handful up front. I'm not sure how many of those three will start tomorrow night (I doubt McGeady needs three games in a week at this stage of his career) but I worry about our full backs against those tricky wingers.

If I could pick out some weak spots - they lacked protection in front of that inexperienced backline. If Conlon/Pett are on song we may be able to exploit that. If we can get Rodney one on one with his full back we may be able to get some joy. They didn't look particularly competent from set pieces (defensively).

They have a thin squad so not sure they have the luxury of too much rotation. If they play a strong side, I think it'll be a case of working hard off the ball and then trying to play through the lines when we get the chance, pushing Conlon into those pockets between their def and mid and hoping he can pull some strings.

What made you go there as opposed to Northampton ?

Do you live that way ?

Stone

Cass Martin Jones

Worrall Pett Walker Benning

Conlon

Rodney Wilson

As DC says, the wingbacks are supposed to be high and wide (in line with the strikers, as they were at times in the Sheff Weds friendly), but this can only happen if we retain possession long enough to set the structure up. If we can knock it about a bit, Worrall should end up as high as he does as RW in a 433. I hope we can see a bit of passing tonight.

I wasn't there on Saturday but it sounds as if we failed to build from the back, leading to hoofball to two forwards who aren't good in the air. Cass is better on the ball than Smith and Jones seems fairly competent technically.

I get the concerns about Worrall and the 352, genuinely, but I wouldn't want to see us bin it after one poor performance. If this is how the team has been prepared, and DC, Crosby, and Flitters believe it's our best route to wins, and built then we need to give it a few games.

Again, it's easy for me to say as I wasn't there vs Cobblers, but despite a bad performance and Covolan's moment of madness, we were a Wilson tap-in away from a point, which we'd deem fair, if unspectacular, if offered pre-game. From the highlights we don't seem to have conceded much from open play, with the same issue of set-pieces being our defensive downfall, which will be hopefully be sorted with some graft in training.

I'd stick with Wilson but wouldn't mind seeing Proctor.

If we come away on Saturday after three poor performances/results and Worrall still ineffectual, then questions will need to be asked. I hope a forward with pace and a wide man are brought in to facilitate a shift in system if 352 doesn't deliver.

352 is fine if the theory behind it (very high full backs playing as wingers really) actually happens in reality. Whatever the reasons for the players playing Popeball on Saturday (it's certainly not instructions, so perhaps a lack of confidence?), that has to stop if this system is going to be successful from an attacking perspective. If we are going to be hoofing it, we may as well go 4 at the back and hope for the best

Also we can only do what the opposition allow us to as well. In theory it’s easy to say we should do this and we should do that, but there’s 11 others players on the pitch who’ve worked on a game plan to stop us.

Whatever the result just looking for a more fluid performance to take into the Tranmere game, whatever the formation.

I am pretty sure it is advisory, and the individual can choose. Due to the space around me, I don't wear one in my seat but wear one when walking to the toilets/kiosk where I know it will be busy, but you won't be prevented from entering if you don't have one.

Got to be looking at giving the likes of Cass, Hurst,Garrity and Proctor a go whilst still keeping a strong core from Saturday. Clarke mentioned that we had a couple of knocks from Saturday so he’s likely to make at least 3 or 4 changes. Be nice for Rodney to get off the mark as I think it will give him the world of confidence going into Saturday. I’d like to see us to have a few more shots from distance as at Northampton we got in a few shooting positions but we too scared to shoot. Think it will end 1-1 and we’ll win on penalties.

Good afternoon fellow Valiants,

One hopes you are all in fine spirits on this fine Tuesday afternoon.

Darrell James Clarke's Valiants will bring glory back to the streets of Burslem this evening with a 2-0 victory over Mr Johnson's Sunderland.

Jeff believes that Thomas George Pett and James Anthony Wilson will be those responsible for inflicting this early exit upon Mr Johnson's Sunderland in this years Littlewoods Challenge Cup.

Back in the summer of 84, one had a good friend from Sunderland, he was called Ian.

All the very best,

Jeff.
