Carol on the Today programme

Recommended Posts

Carol was interviewed on the Today programme, Radio Four this morning.

It's not available to listen again yet but when it is, she' son (probably) about 8.45am.

It was all about the issue of getting fans to have Covid passwords for match entry. A summary of her comments (hope I have these right from memory)

  • She's in favour of vaccines and promoting them but can't see how the club can force people
  • The costs of additional stewarding and so on will hurt clubs
  • This is all about the fans but what about the duty of care to staff/players (she then seemed to say a Vale player had refused a vaccine but I'm not sure if that was a fact or a "what if a player refuses" hypothetical scenario)
  • She made the point that there's plenty of space for 5,000 fans to spread out at Vale Park
  • She also mentioned how do you tell loyal season ticket holders they can't come in after they have committed financially to the club

I think that's a reasonably accurate summary (perhaps someone can correct me if wrong). The bit that shocked me was when she said a player had turned down having the vaccine. I can't be certain she said that so it will be interesting to see exactly what was said on the listen again.

Full on speculation but I imagine its Legge. I'm not anti-vax and I have my second booked in for next week and I don't know Legge's views but its pretty well-known he suffers from seizures and not understanding the effect that could have on his condition could justify his stance.

But again, I'm speculating, might not even be him.

Why is he daft if he has a medical condition and doesn't know how it might react with medication he's already on? Plenty of other people in his shoes I'd imagine, I don't blame him.

He's daft.

They can't sack him for not taking it, whatever peoples reasons for and against, there's no legality in it so we could be sued if he's dismissed.

That's not to mention all the negative press that will come in with it.... let the authorities decide how best to deal with this situation.

It is a difficult and very controversial one...

I have had it, personally for me I felt the pro's weighed against the con's, that said my wife suffered blood clots from it and was made fairly unwell so I can understand younger people having more convincing to take it and no vaccine should be forced. Most countries seem to be going that way though, Greece say any lockdowns would be for unvaccinated only and limits to where they can go, we are going as far as no entry to university lectures, France (which has a lot of anti vax) has suggested measures which have cause mass protests.

My kids are 6 and 5 at the moment but if they were eligible I would not been keen on them having it until the long term issues are fully known as the con's outweigh the pro's at that stage so its down to individuals to decide what is done with their own body.

It is still in trials and I do think it should be encouraged but not forced and alienated a swathe of the population because they don't want it isn't really right. Vax Passports themselves aren't the issue but should be allowed to include the option if un vaxed for testing as an alternative to enter (and then only when case levels suggest its needed).

No they can't, nor can they force him to take it unless the government make it a public health requirement to participate in professional organised team sports. (If it even is Legge, but that appears more likely than not based on his past twitter comments)

It puts Carol in a really awkward position, whoever it is.

Not daft at all, he makes a fair point, scientists have hardly covered themselves in glory throughout any of this.

It also says in the splurge a fever can heighten the risk of a seizure. It may be a small risk but if generally he is fit and well, why would you potentially bring that upon yourself when like most people his age he's extremely low risk to Covid?

The ones who banged out a 90% effective vaccine in less than 12 months, saving tens of thousands of lives, didn't do too shabby.

No he doesn't.

What Toyah said.

I can't believe I'm reading this tbh.

Millions up on millions of people have taken the various vaccines now hence substantial numbers of people having all sorts of medical conditions will have taken the vaccine and data will likely be available whether it's OK or not for a person to take the vaccine.

Most sensible thing to do is consult a medical professional preferably someone who specializes in that particular condition or the "Official Organization which represents that medical condition" for information/guidance.

Unless there is a proven or very strong medical reason for not taking the vaccine then everyone should get it, we owe it to each other.

Employment lawyers will be coining it in.
