Your memories wanted - Everton FA Cup games 1996

You may have seen I'm revamping the "classic games" pages on OVF. I am collecting all the articles on the games into one, central landing page.

The next game to get an improved landing page will be the win over Everton in 1996.

To complete the page, I want to create an article with fans' memories of that win (and the first leg too if you want)

If you were there and you want to share your recollections please reply in this thread

(Note: by replying you agree to your comments being featured in a future OVF article)

Thanks!

Considering the standard of opposition, the replay was probably the best Vale performance I have seen in my near on 60 years of watching Vale.

That night, Guppy and Naylor were unplayable. Without exaggeration a Vale four or five goal victory would not have been unkind to Everton.

And what sometimes goes unmentioned is that Everton were in fact the cup holders!

Super, super performance!

If Carlsberg did evenings at the football……. It started with the first tie, sadly I was working but my father went, I was constantly ringing home to get updates and sneaking out to the car to get snippets of commentary, losing 2-1…. On the phone to my mum at home, radio Stoke on in the background….suddenly it literally exploded into a full on George Andrew’s moment, Bogie had scored and salvaged a replay…..

What followed at Vale Park was simply the best evening I have ever witnessed at a football ground, one particular moment which sticks in the mind was at half time I was stood up from my seat in the Bycars and looked around, barely a yellow seat to be seen in the entire stadium….fantastic performance by every player and Big Nev Southall turned to face the Bycars at the end of the game and applauded the fans…..simply wonderful

I agree the best 90 minutes I've seen at Vale Park,I often felt guilty afterwards because as we left the ground I said " It doesn't get any better than that"...............And it didn't..........☹️
