Always feel that when you just replace 5/6 players you tend to think you have some idea what to expect next season. We replaced significantly more of the team and rightly so in my opinion. Looks like we have made some decent signings. Appreciate its not all about goals , a decent defence is required too, but its goals that get you promoted. I'm no fan of 3 at the back, with 3 at the back the space is behind the wingbacks and in these days of counter attacking football once the ball is turned over in the opposition's half one long ball and the opposition are in on our back 3, if I'm not mistaken both Forests goals came from them exploiting the space behind the wing backs. Also in the expanse of Vale Park there's even more space behind the wing backs. As for Dave Worrall the "Energy bunny" with skill it's a huge ask and a waste having him covering all the space from goal line to goal line.

Conlon was wasted stuck out on the right on Saturday, one half of his range of passing was taken away until he came inside.

Much prefer 4 at the back with whatever permeation of midfield and forwards a manager can dream up.

I suppose this is why DC wants a squad that is flexible. And to be fair, I think he’s pretty much got one. It’ll be down to him how he manages games, from switching formation, players etc.

Totally agree about Conlon’s position on Saturday. I’m not really sure what that was about???

I would like to think that he playing behind the front two come the start of the season.
