Interesting comment above about wingbacks and is the pitch not set to go back to full width.....

So a back three............Smith(Cass)...........Martin(Legge)...........Jones(Johnson)

and RWB Gibbons/Worrall and LWB Benning/Hurst

But is it 3/4/3 or 3/5/2 and given the number of central midfielders a potential midield three perhaps

......................................Pett(Garrity)........Walker(Solanke).............Conlon(Taylor)

Interesting that Amoo played upfront in a two with Proctor although Rodney and Wilson must be considered the first choice strikers....still need a fourth striker.

If throughout the season it changes game to game and even during a match in that "scissors/paper/stone" kinda way to out think teams then it could be 3/5/2 or 3/4/3 but also 4/3/3 and 4/2/3/1 and for traditionalists 4/4/2.....still think along with a fourth striker the squad needs a left winger.

Some people get WAY too hung up on systems and formations. Who cares so long as we win emoji38.png

I don't get your point. We shouldn't discuss anything about football bar the result? Is that your point?

Shut it all down lads. Re-open the forum at 5:00pm on opening day for discussion of result (hooray! or boo!), then stand down till the next Saturday.

Somewhat of an overreaction

I do think understanding which system best suits Vale is important but also finding out which players play better in which system so we understand our own team and their capabilities.

We've lacked in the flexibility area in the past where managers play one system with no plan B, there's a reassurance knowing that if things aren't going our way, Clarke can switch it up.

I didn't say that. Some just get very carried away and involved in it when, at the end of the day, it's the players that win games, not a formation. By game week 3, no doubt some will be calling for 442, Mike Bassett style

We lost today so maybe it’s OK to discuss the formation, just this once.

Clarke screwed up big time by not going 442 against these. What the hell was he thinking. 😬

That's two pre season defeats not that the results matter .

Just a slight worry there ain't enough goals in us there will not be if emphasis is on defending .

Hope the blueprint is not for example the Morecambe game at home where we somehow won I'd like it be something along the lines of the Oldham game at home where chances were unlimited and the best form of  defence was attack .
