It is my opinion. I hope I am wrong but have seen too many false dawns and smart talkers to be convinced when I see the reality is that we don't have enough players at the moment to sustain a League 2 campaign. I know it is still 4 weeks to the season starting but I think it is cutting things a bit fine.

If you think we haven’t got enough players what do you reckon about Oldham?  This was their starting XI yesterday.

No you don't.

It's obvious you're desperate for us to fail so you can come on here gloating.

Like I've said before, you've set yourself up for a win-win scenario. We romp to the title and you're happy we got promoted - or we don't, and you can tell everyone "I told you so".

You are pathetic. Your negativity is making you look very very stupid.

Especially as you said a week ago that "you wouldn't judge players until you've seen them in a few league games".

I find it interesting that when the general consensus on here is that things are not going well at the club, poor owners for example, anyone who disagrees is called a happy clapper. However, when the general consensus on here is that things are going well, wonderful new manager, great new squad anyone who expresses a contrary view is labelled negative and pathetic.

I think I actually said I would judge the players when I have seen them in a Vale shirt. However, it is not about individual players, rather about the ability of the current manager to create a competitive team from them.

Yes when V2001 almost took us out of existence you would have been called a happy clapper , were you ?

You observation is right though the current owners are doing an excellent job and have united the fan base , with one obvious exception

You make a load of judgements. If this is your viewpoint, say nothing and spare us all mate. Getting tedious.

Was a very proffesional performance from the lads yesterday, thought we looked fit and sharp, could also see improvement from last weeks friendly which is a positive, thought the midfield 3 of Pett,Walker & Conlon were excellent, really like the look of Pett and Walker yesterday both very good technically, think Pett only misplaced 1 pass all day and was always wanting the ball and used it well, whilst Walker showed a great range of passing as he was pinging passes Gerrard Esque be interesting to see the midfield now up against better opposition who don't give them as much time on the ball. Thought Benning also looked decent going forward so also keen to see more of him defensively to see how he handles it. Think that was probably 7-8 of our starting line up playing yesterday but to think we were missing Covolan,Johnson,Martin,Gibbons,Jones,Taylor,Hurst,Garrity,Amoo,Wilson,Proctor & potentially another 2-3 signings shows there is some depth there hopefully. Hoping we add another stiker as feel we still need some more firepower upfront and hopefully some real competition at right back for Gibbo to allow him time to fully recover.

It’s not the same though. The difference is that you are being negative based on nothing. The season hasn’t started and there’s nothing to judge the squad, managers or performances by.

593 is probably right. I have a mate who is a Lincoln season-ticket holder. This is a lad who saw him play 50 times for Cowley's team that absolutely walked the division a couple of years ago. This lad is usually spot on when it comes to judging signings for us.

He was at Stevenage as he got an injury at Lincoln and, whilst he was out, Cowley was replaced with Appleton who wanted to reshape the squad with more young players. Pett wanted regular football and Stevenage is basically where he grew up (Potters Bar) and spent four years of his career. After he signed for Stevenage they only lost 8 of the 30 games he played in, after losing 7 of their first 11 and only winning 1.

We've most likely signed a top League 2 midfielder. It's very basic and not at all contextualised to see Stevenage and make your assumption from that.

OK then, in a very basic sense, if Conlon, Rodders and Pett all stay fully fit do you see Pett being the best player out of those 3 come the end of the season?

Common sense would suggest that Pett, at 29, is pretty much the finished article, whereas Conlon and Rodney are very much still at the early stages of their profession, with far more potential to improve.  In Conlon’s case we’re talking about the current EFL Fans Player of The Year.  It wouldn’t be madness to say either one, or both, players actually will improve on last seasons performances.

Whoever wins the plaudits come the end of the season I’m sure Pett will do a great job for us.

As good as Conlon was, him being voted Fans Player of the Year was a bit silly. He was great but he wasn't the best player in the league. I think Vale fans did a good job on the vote there but he shouldn't have beaten Mullin.

I agree though, we have a number of good players.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and there are plenty on this forum which makes it such an interesting read. No one will know for sure until the season is well under way, until then its all conjecture.  I hope DC does take us to the Promised land or League 1 at least. His signings look promising but I have started too many seasons with high hopes only to have them dashed. Come the end of the season RZs scepticism might be proved right or he could be eating large amounts of humble pie, only time will tell. Until then he is as right/ wrong  as anyone else.

It's the faux 'I'm just asking questions, I haven't made a judgement yet' manner in which he presents his arguments. Criticising whilst trying to avoid the blowback if he's got it wrong.

I don't care what Oldham are doing, if they do badly it means we have less chance of being relegated.

We are all being dragged off topic here but you are really twisting my pips here, you now have to include relegation in nearly all your posts now and that really is starting to come across as pathetic..... I am just so glad you aren't giving the team talks

I suppose you didn't really care about Bratt nearly ending us as a football club or didn't really care about him making money out of the club at the time and also GENUINE fans losing a lot of share money whilst he didn't.......... makes me so angry

I know it’s off topic but Bratt makes my blood boil when I think about all the money he made out of the club even now.
