Surely would have made sense to pick a decent side against Stafford and field a weaker side against kidsgrove? So swap the friendlies around? Seems a very pointless exercise tonight

Agree entirely. Very strange. I was contemplating going living in Stone but TF I decided not to bother!!!

Right, so this is not a criticism but just a question….??

What was the point of tonight?

Fitness for backup players + opportunity to look at trialists without depriving first team players of valuable minutes + more opportunity for the management to assess if their tactics are set up right + chance to see how the young lads cope with playing against men + allow Clarke/Crosby/Whitehead to work with 10+ Under 18s and further integrate their pathway from youth to senior team.

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought Stafford Rangers were a decent sized non-league outfit, and if it’s right that we had 1,000+ there I’d be pretty p!ssed off if that’s what had been served up if I’m honest.

Why? Friendlies are structured training sessions. No one is owed anything.

Judging by the prices they were charging I think Stafford were expecting our first team. That was Griffith’s second outing and he hasn’t impressed in either - he gave away the first pen. Solanke looked a far better bet. I’m surprised the bulk of that squad were allowed out so late - they must have had homework to do.

Similar to most pre-season friendlies, in fact - it's rarely about winning the games...although that'a a good habit!
