It was never a penalty and VAR should have made the ref look at it again but Denmark’s 2nd goal against Wales should have been pulled back for a free kick and as said, it was not a free kick for their goal. England deserved to go through, it’s only the jocks complaining now.

The Danish players gave the ref a call to make by committing two consecutive, clumsy challenges in the box, the call went England's way. The run of the ball evens up over time, let's hope this is just the start as England are "Owed a few".

Different view of the penalty
Deffo a pen from that angle.

That was the view we saw on Austrian coverage after the game. They slowed it down and showed a point of contact on either side. It looked as clear as day a pen watching it here.

If Italy get a pen in extra time in exactly the same circumstances as the England pen with the faintest of contact we’ll be going fecking mad claiming we woz robbed

I thought live it was one of them where if it’s given for you your delighted and think it could be a penalty, however if it’s the other way around you would be pissed off. There is a touch and the Denmark players gave him the opportunity to go down. Soft but not a dive as some are saying

Sterling (and Grealish) both have very fast feet and Sterling is also very quick on his feet, so the ball's there then it's gone very quickly, hence defenders have to be even more careful when tackling them, especially in the box.

It was brilliant skill by Sterling to get past and in front of the first defender in such a short time and limited space and not the most sensible of decisions by the beaten defender to attempt to tackle Sterling from behind, never mind the other defender coming in from the side to make a challenge on a Sterling who's probably at the very limit of his ability to maintain his balance.

With both Sterling and Grealish in the squad and Grealish being the most fouled person in the EPL I was surprised that Southgate didn't keep Ward-Prowse in the squad as him taking the free-kicks perpetrated by fouls on Sterling and Grealish would have been a dangerous weapon for England.
