That was dire, Southgate has no clue.

There didn't appear to be any method, any pattern of play, any anything, none of the midfield seem to be on the same wavelength, again it was slow, labored build up,  sideways and backwards.

Play players with pace who can make forward runs but don't play, Bellingham, a player who has the ability to pass them the ball instead play two defensive midfield players who mostly pass the ball sideways and backwards.

James passed the ball backwards more than any full back I've ever seen at international level, truly awful performance.

It doesn't help either that some of England's key players look out of form, Kane, Sterling, Rashford and even Foden looks off the pace.

What point you trying to get at, Scotland are a really poor team and we were lucky to get a draw, poor team selection, strange subs, we have done nothing in 2 games to make anyone get excited about us going far in the competition.

Because the way Souness was talking you’d think they’d won the World Cup yet for all their wonderfulness they have played two games, haven’t scored a goal and couldn’t beat an awful England team.

Some of you may be old enough to remember Italy’s performances in the first group stage of the 82 World Cup. They were abject - scored 2 goals in 3 games.  They qualified in second place behind Poland by having scored one more goal than Cameroon. They were pilloried in the Italian press. Then they won the cup!!

Look at the two squads, yes football is played on the pitch and not on paper but I see why Souness going over the top.  It is like Sheffield United going to Man City and getting a draw and saying City were rubbish but Sheffield could not beat them.  I maintain that we have a really good squad but Southgate is a poor manager and not getting anything out of some very good players.

Spot on. The default Southgate tactic is to look for the sideways/backwards pass, and a saftey-first option - even against one of the weakest teams in the tournament.

Even when he relents to any sort of attacking instinct by bringing on Grealish, he only does so by substituting him for our only other progressive player in Foden.

We've f-all chance of doing anything at this tournament with him in charge, despite having one of the best array of attacking talent at our disposal, that could destroy most opposition defences if utilised properly.

And the same will be the case in 18 months time at the World Cup, when arguably we should have even more chance of success - with the players mid-season, match-fit and not fatigued, yet will still be hampered by the same inadequate, cautious manager.

Have we got a Paulo Rossi in our squad?! (Kane is looking more like Paul Ross.....Jonathan's brother!)

They beat a classic Brazil (Zico, Socrates, Eder, Falcao et al) in the next round.....we couldn't (and didn't deserve to) beat one of the worst teams in the tournament.

I hope you're right and we see Declan Rice doing a Marco Tardelli-type celebration having scored in the Final! (wonder what odds the bookies would give on that?!.....more chance of aliens landing and winning the final on penalties!)

And yet we should go through and Scotland will probably go out.

They are celebrating like they have won the world cup because they didn't lose to England,  lol.

Apparently we have not conceded in 7 of our last 8 games now.

The amount of strikers has nothing to do with anything.

True in this case as the service was woefull.

You can argue that if the sevice were better then it's up to the midfield to join the striker, but in reality it's far easier for a lone striker to become isolated.  Kane, as much as he looks out of sorts, looked isolated.  The Jocks played 2 strikers who posed far more of a threat, simply by having an extra body in there to compete and occupy the defenders

Agree GR but it's no damn use the midfield joining the strikers when there's no one good enough to play a great/killer even decent forward pass, the same happened in the 2018 World Cup. Mr 5 yard sideways and backwards pass Rice ain't gonna do it neither is Mr journey man Phillips although I must admit he's the best hope in that starting eleven.

England cannot play both Rice and Phillips in midfield it's one or the other plus  Bellingham and if he does play two players in front of the back four he has to play two offensive full backs and not James on this performance.

The most frustrating thing for me was the subs. We have quality players sat there on the bench for games like this. Why weren’t Bellingham and sancho used?  DCL for Kane? Instead we play 90 mins with two CDMs. Dreadful all round really. Was impressed with mings again though.
