Wanted: your memories of Port Vale 3-1 Stoke City, 1992

As I've mentioned I'm revamping OVF's coverage of classic games and one of the angles I want to get is fans' views of the matches.

So, this time I am asking for your memories of the famous FA Cup first round replay win over Stoke.

Please reply with your recollections.

Note: replies on here may be used in a future OVF article - by posting on here you agree for your comments to be featured. Thanks!

Last game I went to with my late father, very poignant as he was a life long Vale fan. I remember the awful weather, dried my coat out after a week I put it back on still water in my pockets. Still laugh with my Stoke mates, they were on the Hamil and we had arranged to meet in the Park Inn, we had a great night in there, they could not get in. And of course Regis’s shot sticking in the puddle. Oh they were happy days

I ran on the pitch when Foyle scored and got escorted to the police box....was in the paddock side bottom corner of the bycars and was soaked though...as I was bein escorted past the paddock several vale fans tried to drag my away from the stewards into the paddock without success...persuaded the sergeant in duty i got bundled onto the pitch by other people streaming forward so got sent on my way

My memory was this game was 1992 and part of the season where we ended up playing Stoke 5 times in one season. How we were spoilt back then! I remember getting tickets in the Bycars and unfortunately at the very last minute my dad being unable to go through work. I just remember my grandad taking me who was a massive Stoke fan. At the end of the game I think even he was pleased with the result as I don’t think he coped with my reaction if we had lost! What a great game and atmosphere. I don’t think I can remember Vale Park ever being so loud.

I actually have Chris Sulley’s shirt as a memento from this game after they auctioned the shirts off for charity on Radio Stoke.

Was in the Bycars with a mate. It was hard to get tickets so the group I normally went to games with were scattered all over the place. We were just about under the roof but still got soaked as the rain was horizontal! My voice had gone by the end of the game. Coutldn't speak for days.

I got interviewed by Sky on the way in - not sure if they used it.

The game was brilliant, everything a cup tie between local rivals should be, I only say that because we stuffed them ! 😂😂 but trying to get out of the railway paddock without being hit with a house brick at end of the match was a nightmare. The S.... fans were throwing house bricks from a wall at the side of the Hamil end, I remember just putting my forearms above my head and trying to run like Seb Coe past them !

I made it out.😂😂

Slightly off topic. Was working in Cambridge for the first game, which was televised.

Went in a pub, which incredibly had Sky on the wrong channel.

Persuaded them to switch over, the pub started filling up, a few moans and groans, but by the end there were a good few converts to the Vale cause.

My favourite ever Vale game . My late dad and my son were there with me to watch this blood and guts cup tie from the bycars end . We had a great team ,we’ were playing the enemy down the road , it was a third round replay it was a packed Vale park and it was peeing down . All the makings of a great game , and the lads didn’t let us down . They were brilliant. That tackle by Foley on Aspo , . Foyley scoring our equaliser ,Porters rocket to put us in front. Regis’s sitter sticking in the mud , and one of my favourite Vale goals , Foyley beating Sinclair to the ball outside of the box and hitting it goalwards , we all stood there in anticipation , the ball trickled over the line into the back of the net . That feeling that excitement that anticipation and that goal will stay in my mind forever . VALE 3   SJOKE 1.   Glad to share that time with my dad and my son . UTV
