England have done really well today to get back in the game. It looked like India would score 450+. We are still behind in the game but at least we are fighting in this game. Anderson bowled superbly. Robinson even though his figures weren't the best 2 for 73 got the important wickets of the guy who hit the 100 and kohli.

I know we are restricted with choice of bowlers with woakes stokes archer and broad out but surely there's a better Bowler than curran about. I dont think he is quick enough and concedes far too many runs.

Regarding the number 3 position it could be worth giving malan or Vince another go in tests. I know there past records weren't great but I can remember mark butcher averaging 27 when he initially played for England. He got recalled a couple of years later and averaged 40 for the next 4 years and ended up with a mid 30s averages. So basically sometimes players perform better in there 2nd stint in the team get there nerves out the way ect.

You have to give Hameed a chance at three. You can’t judge him on one ball. Remember Gooch got a pair in his first test and Butcher did rubbish in his first spell but then came back and improved considerably.

For me we need to find a number 3. Malan would still be my go to for now or even Vince. I know neither has exactly set the world alight but both are technically excellent players who can hit big runs. I’d be dropping sibley ASAP he’s dire. He has one scoring shot and now this shot is getting him out. We saw with burns today that although slow at starting he can go up through the gears and build an innings. Sibley can’t. Hameed to open as he does in county cricket not batting at 3 where he never bats. Then either malan or Vince to come in at 3.

Anderson was fantastic. Robinson bowled well again and will be in this side for years, moeen and wood also did will today, Curran looked way off it though, bad ball every over. Really not sure on his selection. Down to this partnership for me, bairstow looked in good nick in the first game so hopefully he can support root and get us somewhere close to their total. At least we are in the game, it could and probably should have been a lot larger total given their excellent start.

Much better from us, or Root at least. Thought we would end up at least 100 short of their first innings total so to take a small lead into tomorrow was some effort. Take Root and Anderson out of our side though and we suddenly look very average.

I'd have hameed opening the batting instead of sibley as it's his natural position.

I think that’s the concern really. What Root is doing right now is incredible particularly when you factor in England are usually 30/2 by the time he comes to the crease. I think at this precise moment he is probably the best batsman in the world given that. With that said at some point he will get a low score and then what else is there in that batting lineup is a major worry. You can’t just rely on one man to do all your scoring.

Big session this morning, if England can get into that Indian middle order the likes of Rahane and even Kohli right now seem vulnerable so could see England maybe getting into a winning position.

I think Moeen with that bowling at the end of the day has moved the pendulum in England’s favour. We have bowled really well today on a slow pitch. This is exactly why I hate it when England go into a test with no specialist spinner, the option here has been vital.

Been a great test match overall though, brilliant viewing.

What the heck's goin' on, only have TMS not video. Is England's batting poor or is it doing a lot or a mixture of both. Thought I would be listening to an England run chase not a rearguard action to save the game but it is the England cricket team I guess.

England batting is a joke really but some of the bowling has been top notch. Out of that current 11 in the England team I'd only retain root hameed Ali Wood Robinson and Anderson.

Wouldn't pick Hameed for Porthill Park he looked like a rabbit in headlights. Absolutely petrified.

It’s been a shocking performance all day starting from when we were bowling at the tail. That was abysmal from England and it’s carried on with the bat while India’s momentum grew.

Just backs up that you can’t keep expecting Root to just score all our runs. Someone else needs to step up and fast.

I'd give hameed a couple more games see if he can make a score above 50. Be harsh to drop him after 1 games. Burns and sibley should be nowhere near this team.
