Exactly and if a search was done for Whitehead the fans' comments on him would be in stark contrast to those on Conlon and Smith. The fans would be spot on as Whitehead hardly covered himself in glory anytime he appeared in a Vale shirt.

Having said that let's give the lad a chance to show what he can do, he certainly sounds confident and enthusiastic.

Whitehead was a player the previous manager had shoehorned into a squad that got promoted by an effective team system. But once called upon to be effective in an environment where individual expression of talent was needed alongside teamwork he simply didn't have it. A very limited player who can't take us where we want to go.

Thing is we are going for a younger squad. We are going to have less experience.

The average age of the England squad is 24. Walker (25) has a decent amount of experience at this level for his age. Let's hope Garrity (24) is in the mould of Jamie Vardy and Ian Wright in terms of coming to the professional game late in his career and adapting quickly.

I think the signings so far could play at League 1 level and have scope to improve with coaching. It seems to me that is exactly what is needed to get promoted from League 2 and with a stable team that doesn't need much further change secure a good position in League 1.

So I too can regret Manny leaving. He did well relatively when he was in the team in his time at PV. But the fact is League 2 was a career high level for him and he was injury prone. I sense he was happy to go to Chesterfield and plough a furrow with a former coach in the National League. He could surprise me if Chesterfield get promoted!

That’s <ovf censored> and you know it.

Walker does have a bit of experience at League One, which Manny doesn't really have. But essentially it is <ovf censored> yes.

It is interesting that both players we have signed were out injured for months last season. Neither of their clubs wanted to keep them. Either DF and DC and RC3PO are playing a blinder. Or we are signing up more garbage

I want to see two great overwhelming signings,an experienced goalscorer and left back, the two signed could be good players and i'm not unhappy  but they are chancers, wow me Vale!!

Hopefully they come good. Definitely chancers. On long contracts. Have to hope DF and DC know what the are doing.  And that they are not just a pair management speak bull shitters.

Depends how you define chancers. I'm pretty confident Walker will be a good player, provided he can play around 35 games a season. Garrity is an interesting one. Last year Rodney was defined as a chancer. Two people on the football side of the club told me they were as confident as they could be about him. Vale watched him a lot last season. With extra people involved one would hope there has been a similar level of care taken. DC and DF need to get recruitment right; particularly handing out longer contracts. Stoke, or Notts County, show the legacy of managers giving long contracts; only to be unsuccessful and then leave the club with a string of players new managers won't select. The first 10 games of 21/22 season are going to be really interesting seeing how these players and team perform. Ultimately long contracts are great, if you get 85% of recruitment right. They are bad if you don't.

On the subject of Garrity I watched 3 of his 4 goals for Oldham last night. He seems quite a big lad. His goal on the first game of the season should be shown to every schoolboy player. The Carlisle marking for a free kick was the worst I've ever seen.

The difference between Rodney and Garrity is that Rodney came in with decent reviews from his old teams. Garrity has been universally derided by Oldham fans.

Can't get to enthused about this one, but I'll see how he goes after 5 games.

100% agree on Walker, think that will turn out to be a gem of a signing.

Where I'd cut Garrity a bit of slack is he was often paired with Callum Whelan. Neither had a league start before this season. If he plays in a 3 with Conlon and Walker he'll be alongside players with about 200 professional games each. He's also got at least one player alongside him, in Conlon, who will be vocal enough to talk him through games.

On the face of it he doesn't look like like a Burgess upgrade; although Burgess did look like he was going backwards last season.

Be interesting to see how they go about bringing in cover for Walker in the holding role. If he can't shift Whitehead and Burgess we have 6 central midfield players. Does he go for a specialist, or someone who can also cover fullback? Or does he use Conlon; which is a waste for me as he is the best inside left in this division but no more than about average in a holding role.

Spoke to him he’s quite open,,, he’s training with us. Actually he’s just moved back into the area ( and not from Australia 😜)

Why nip in and do a bit of training with us? I would guess he has a few offers out there so why train at another club, what did he actually say to make you think he was going to sign for us? Not doubting what you say by the way

Cross my fingers the matrix has seen something that other people haven't. Feels like Whitehead 2.0 but this time we've paid a fee.

And before people shoot me down for "not seeing him play" I have friends that are oldham fans who can't believe he's managed to get a league club to take him on. Its all well and good spouting about Constantine, but in reality he's the exception not the rule.

Time will tell and hopefully they will be proven wrong, but the fact we've paid a fee for him given the limits to our budget and the amount of holes we need to fill in the first team seems wild.

Tbf i think whitehead had played a fair few games when we signed him, this lad has played 29 and just over 12mths ago i think it was he was playing for Warrington.... couldn't give a stuff what other teams fans think its what DC can do with him,if he can make money out of Zak Jules then anything is possible

Our first 2 signings have come from League One clubs and should have the potential to get better and as i said before to those who have been moaning, maybe we should go back to getting Macc  cast offs

Have to be honest here,i am not sure we will sign those overwhelming signings(what players would you class in that bracket).

Walker a chancer after playing 240 games? Garrity i would agree with

When you say long contracts, you make it’s sound like we have locked them in for 4 years.

Both are on 2 year deals.

Walker is a chancer due to his injury  concerns and Garritty is similar and lacks league experience,i want experienced pro's,the likes of Andy Cook and an established left back, players who have that quality to get promotion.
