Quote from the article, "Joyce’s ability to win possession high up the pitch and retain it was clear as he won the ball 80 times in the opponents half last season for Darrell Clarke’s side, second only to Jay Spearing in League Two. He also completed a team-high 1,479 passes for the Valiants, often starting many of Vale’s attacking moves from deep, creating 12 chances and notching four assists".
Although not the whole picture they appear pretty good and key stats for a player that some Vale fans don't rate.
I wonder if Flitcroft et al have those stats and stats for other released players in their databases as a benchmark for players to sign.

Weird how stats can show things if you want them to. According to whoscored, Joyce had the worst successful pass completion of all of our centre midfielders, including whitehead and burgess! Who'd have thunk it?!

Yep stats can be interpreted in different ways.  I would say Joyce and Conlon have a similar pass success percentage (69 cf 70.2) the range for all the central midfield players is 69-78.9 and those with the higher percentage played the least. There are other passing stats where Joyce does well and reflects the defensive midfield position he played. He is ranked overall 4th in passing stats behind Worrall, Conlon, and Rodney so a good season's work according to Whoscored and IMHO unlucky to be let go

On the Johnson and Gordon rumours I expect both to sign. I think they fit the criteria of age, experience and future potential - players on an upward curve.

Carole made it very clear she would like Vale to be seen as a place for players to come and develop using Rodders and Taylor as examples.

I'm really unconcerned about our signings during the summer because we have a proper process in place to ensure we get the right players. We certainly won't be signing any has beens on 2 year contracts like previous management teams. I have COMPLETE faith and trust in DF and DC to get it right, even if there maybe some perceived left field or 'lazy' signings.

I'm absolutely convinced we will end up with a genuine promotion chasing squad this year.

Danish manager Ebbe Skovdahl once made a famous (in Denmark at least) quote, when asked about statistics up to a match: "statistics are like a mini skirt; it gives you a good idea, but conceals the most important bits".

Yeah, but still managed to be one of our top 5 on the pitch... 🤔

Did he?

Worrall, legge, smith, Conlon, Rodney, brisley, brown, gibbons were all comfortably better when they played. Joyce was good the season before last. But last season was really poor imo.

I'd say Bradford in pole position after his decent loan spell there last season.

Yeah I thought the same... although I wonder if Adams super defensive style could put him off?

He’s played under Mickey Mellon, DC and Flickers so this could just be the classic lazy transfer rumour approach again.

Agree with Iron Curtain, it will be interesting to see what Adams does at Bradford.
Their forum is predictably linking them with half the Morcambe side and claiming that Cole Stockton is a done deal.

UV saying that there is a strong rumour that 2 players are done and dusted. They say that one wont be announced until next week minimum. Someone has pointed out that this could mean Ryan Johnson as he is still involved in playoff games with Hartlepool.

It's not always helpful to do comparisons, but as a left sided CB in a 2 or a 3, who can also play LB if needed, he'd be up against Crookes in the "Is this an improvement" challenge.

A bit of research suggests he's had an interesting path having started at Stevenage. At one point he was being looked at by Spurs and Norwich but nothing materialised and he had a series of loan moves into none league as he wanted to play as a 21-22 year old , he was then taken on a short term contract by Hartlepool as a backup this season and hasnt looked back. Scored 5 goals, handed the captaincy for some games. He is also described as "quick" by their manager, something we lack at the back at the moment.

He also represented Norther Ireland at U19 and U21 level.

Has the matrix found a gem? We will have to wait and see.

One the the matrix does seem to favour... its size. Hes 6ft 2 and another unit.

We wont be bullied next year!

Hartlepool are at home to Bromley this Sunday.

Then potentially 2 more games if they win that.

So think if Johnson is a target then patience is the word .

Also would promotion for Hartlepool change his thinking particularly if captain.
