It's a no-brainer for Gibbo to join a Championship club, especially given his place in the team here isn't guaranteed.

I can't help but think that despite us thinking he's 'one of our own', Gibbo is in fact a Stoke fan, good friends with a certain Tom Pope and perhaps isn't overly fond of the current management. That's just pure speculation but I think it all may play a part in him not being desperate to stay. You have to remember that he's seen a large overhaul of the squad and may see this is a good time to move on now that most of his 'friends' are out of the building. When asked about his contract situation before the Brentford game he said something along the lines of 'at the moment it's about proving my fitness', so he's not even sure he's got a contract here beyond June.

We're sure as hell going to miss his drive and energy.

These theories are getting more outrageous. Just read that back. Have you got a tinfoil hat on?

-He’s a Stoke fan.

-Doesn’t like the manager because he’s mates with Tom Pope.

-His friends have gone so he won’t want to stay.

He must have been here ten years or more through our academy and judging by the way he plays I’d say he has a lot of affinity for  the club. He’s also a professional footballer who sees players come and go every season, do you really believe a player would leave because his “mate” has gone? Come on we’re really reaching now.

Surely we offered more than a paltry £50k? That's an absolute steal. I just want to hear from DC that we offered more and it was the chance of possibly playing serie A + closer to Romania that swung it.

We'll find out in about 30 hours when the team sheet gets released, if he's not in the squad and Gibbo isn't starting (which would basically confirm his transfer rumour) then I'll be beyond gutted.

Politic leaving is a real blow. A real game changer & the kind of player who in my eyes we should've gone to town to try & sign up. However, sounds like he's moving to a side pushing for Serie A football which realistically was always going to be virtually impossible for us to match.

The lad could be playing at San Siro or Stadio Olympico next season, rather than the Globe Arena in Morecambe.

Good luck Dennis, you've been great for the Vale & will be remembered fondly for your short but impressive time here. Top lad.

There may be nothing we could have done about either Politic or Gibbo (if the rumours are true), but as someone who has been very optimistic all season and tried to see the bigger picture post Walsall, Sutton, Oldham etc... I'm getting a bit anxious.

DC and Flitters know what they're doing but we're now starting an inexperienced keeper for 4 crucial games, our top scorer is still getting up to speed and the other is still some way off playing, we're potentially losing two very good League 2 players, and we can't keep clean sheets to save our lives at the minute (1 in 12).

None of this is anyone's 'fault', just a lot of annoying things happening around the same time. Every successful manager attests to the role of luck in winning things, and we haven't had much. We'll probably win tomorrow and I'll calm down but if someone had said on Dec 31st "Gibbo and Politic will go, Proctor is nowhere near, Cov will be out for 4 games, Conlon will dip out of form, and we'll get outplayed at home to Swindon" then I'd have been a bit worried.

It’s a huge blow if (and I reckon it will be) it is true with Politic. The one thing I can cling to on this is the club I would imagine have been aware of this for a while so will have a contingency plan in place. Just generally this is the downside to having loan players, there is always the risk of this happening.

Good luck to Dennis though if he does go.
