Committing yourself for three years is big, when you consider where we are - in the midst of the largest squad overhaul in living memory. The club is in the middle of an exciting gamble and Conlon is happy with it to the extent where he's pledging his prime years to us (or to get sold, which will require top performances). He still had another year so could have walked next summer.

He clearly has a lot of confidence in what is going on, and backs Clarke to help his career. If he didn't, he would have just stuck with his last year and seen how things progress, then decide whether to commit or move on. Encouraging.

Not that I wish to disagree with the meaning of your post, I would say that Gorm's overhaul the summer before relegation was bigger. Unless of course you are 5 years old, in which I would agree entirely

Yeah fair, but I guess I could quibble on the semantics; overhaul implies a degree of foresight and planning, whilst Norm's efforts were more akin to getting nailed on Malbec and swinging a sledgehammer at something quite useful.

I am pleased Tom is staying, I think you will find I said he was going to be good a long time ago. When everyone was asking why we had signed him.

Exciting times, can’t remember the previous incumbents , especially Bratt and Co handing out so many 3 year contracts , you are right plenty to be positive about

Conlon is exactly the type of player that we've been crying out for for years.
25, experienced, at the peak of his powers, with more to come.

Hopefully there will be a few more like him on the way.

2016:
out - 16 (8 released, 8 rejected contracts)
in - 18 (16 permanent, 2 on loan)

2017:
out - 21 (15 released, 6 rejected contracts)
in - 19 (13 permanent, 6 on loan)

2021:
out - 16-19 (15 released + Manny sold, 3 transfer-listed)
in - ?

So the biggest squad overhaul in living memory if you don't include the consequences of Norman's piss up in Portugal.

I'm delighted Tom Conlon is staying and I also think it's almost like having a new signing. I am sure his form would have had some other clubs looking at him but he's not likely to be going anywhere now.

There's a long way to go and the quality of new additions will be vital but this is a great start, in my opinion.

We've got a young, local, talented captain who is willing to commit himself long-term to the club. That can only be good news as far as I am concerned.

🙂
