I wondered how long this would take. I was betting start of August..... I'm absolutely certain he'll get at least 20 for Vale next season if he doesn't re-sign

But I knew it would be quick that someone who calls himself a Vale fan would post something disrespectful to Tom Pope.

I don't think TP can complain about anybody being 'disrespectful' about him on an open forum given his antics on Twitter over the past few years. Get a grip man

No amount of training in pre season could bring Tom what he needs which is pace. Tom has been a great servant and I can see why some would say give him a go but as sad as it seems, his time as a Vale player is over. The crowd have never been on Pope's back but I reckon It could potentially end in disaster had he stayed for another year. All of our greatest servants had to finish at some point, let him go with dignity. As bizarre as it may seem I would love him to prove Clarke wrong but I'm  not so sure another league 2 club will come in for him.

Dr D, Tom never had physical pace his strength was an eye for goal, leading the line, holding the ball up and laying it off to bring others into play. As the squad stands at the moment there is no one with this skill set, there's no plan B.

Tom didn't have his best season last year for reasons we're all aware of. However,  there were times when he recovered from the "Sunderland injury" when he was bought on when Vale were scrapping for a result late in the season with their backs to the wall and he provided a masterclass in leading the line and ball retention, Bradford City away was one of them.

Last season several times the co-commentators at away games mentioned the absence of Tom Pope and commented "Vale wouldn't be in the position they were if Pope was available" so some people within the game rate him, it's just some feckless Vale fans that don't.

He’s past it. Move on.

Explain how Pope's tweet(s) were antisemetic.

When you have to resort to Twitter to justify a Vale payer not getting a contract then it's you who should get a grip man, a very big grip indeed.

With respect they don't watch Vale week in, week out. They're probably imagining the Tom Pope of old, as you are.

I've seen virtually every Vale game since iFollow started showing video so my opinion is not based on the Tom Pope of old, in fact I only had access to BBC commentary and weekly video highlights of the promotion season. If you went through the match threads from last season you will find many posts from me praising the skill and quality of how TP lead the line and laid the ball off.

Granted as players age their powers decline and Tom isn't the player he was in the promo season but he's still good enough to do a good job in this league.

Just an observation. I've been on virtually every L2 forum over the last few weeks, mainly viewing the retained list or new player threads. I've seen other teams fans arguing amongst themselves about players they hoped or should of signed. Bradford fans arguing about not signing Wilson one of the funniest. Not once out of the hundreds of comments I've read on these forums have i heard Guthrie's name mentioned or Popes for that matter. Can understand the sentiment towards Pope as he's been a great servant. However, like others have said we now need to move on with the project. Guthrie i don't get at all. Let's see who DC brings in next & let's all get behind the new lads we have signed so far.

It’s one of a number of reasons he shouldn’t have got a new contract.

I rate Pope, in the same way I rate Grew, Sproson, Gardener, Mills, Hill, Taylor, Walker, Earle, Guppy, Beckford & Futcher-They were all ace one but you wouldn't pick a one of them to face Kidsgrove tomorrow. The Rocky films were good but they weren't for real you know.
