Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

If you want disregard the more distant past then only look at goals from last season.  Wilson’s tally last term isn’t bad considering the number of games he played and the fact that he was played out wide rather than as a central striker. 8 goals from 29 games according to his wiki.  He’s a nailed on double figure guy if we can keep him fit for 30 plus games in my opinion.
By the Post Match interviews both the Cs expecting 2 more strikers to arrive.

Read Professor Feldmans evidence in the FA Hearing judgment. He knows more about it than all of us combined.

Granted getting involved on Twitter was not the most sensible thing that Tom Pope has ever done but for you to use it as a reason why he shouldn't be awarded a contract is pretty poor, he's paid his dues for goodness sake. Tom Pope likely got snared by a "Race baiter" on Twitter and he paid the price.

Show me where I've even hinted that was why I thought he shouldn't get a new contract. My thoughts on TP are well known, and his twitter antics fall at the bottom of my list as to why letting him go was the right thing to do

Pointless and petty calling Vale fans "feckless" for having the audacity to realise TP is no longer the player he was...a couple of seasons ago...and would no longer be able to contribute to a Vale side hoping to get promotion - despite being a top earner. Had he stayed I suspect it would have been on vastly-reduced terms. But - as others have pointed out - there doesn't seem to have been a queue to sign him? He has been a great servant for the Vale, for which he has been thanked time and again...but it's now time to say goodbye to the legend...which, I believe, is more than he has said to the fans? (If I've missed that, that's on me and I apologise!)

Note the word, "Some" in my post referring to some Vale fans who've made disparaging remarks. I've not claimed Tom Pope is  the player of two years ago but maintain he's still good enough to do a job at this level based on seeing every game he played last year and as Vale currently have no one with a skill set similar to his.

You've actually written in your post above,  TP's "Twitter antics are one of your reasons why letting him go (ie not offering a contract) was the right thing to do", no need for me to show you anything.

What was the point of bringing TP's Twitter escapades up in this context anyway.

Let it go Paul. We all know pope is a legend for us but all good things come to an end and it was blatantly obvious last season he is way past it and his next move will reflect that.

Doesn't really matter whether you used the word "some" "one" or "a thousand" you're still out of order calling any Vale fan feckless. What you mean is they have a different opinion to you - which is the point of having a forum. With his contribution diminishing, season by season, I'll be glad to see us stop playing Popeball! Currently, the transfer window is still open for a while. - let's see who comes in!

DC has indicated he wants to play a faster moving / higher pressing game.  I struggle to see in what way anyone can think the TP of 2021 fits into that system.

The ‘do a job’ is such a lazy comment.  It is can they do the job required.  I am 52 with shot knees, I could still ‘do a job’ but wouldn’t be great.

DC found a way of Theo being far more effective for the team which went on the unbeaten run, and yet there is no clamour to retain his services.

TP was dominated week after week by younger stronger fitter defenders, and aside from the occasional glimpse showed very little - even before the injury.  Strange that he hasn’t been snapped up at the first opportunity if DC has made such an error.

As they say there is none as blind as he who will not see.

It wasn't a 'race baiter', which you've made up and look daft in doing so.

The person just asked about WW3, which was a common meme at the start of 2020. He took it down a very questionable path, informed by conspiracy theory youtube videos (as he admitted at enquiry).

I think his twitter behaviour was relevant, as he was suspended for the start of the season and was unable to contribute. He'd been warned and failed to to heed his bosses' warnings. Its a sign of unprofessionalism. Availability is the best ability.

Regardless, he's gone now and I don't think we'll miss his three goals from last season. A club legend but let's look forward.

Great to see the new signings on Saturday but Conlon was involved in nearly everything when he came on in the 2nd half. He looks like he is much more vocal too.

Also it's one thing seeing we have signed 6' players but its another to actually see them on the pitch. A team of giants. Really looking forward to seeing them all line up together for the first time.

Popeys gone and his critics are still harping on. Let it go.

I think the kidsgrove game gives us an indication of how we will line up this season, which leaves some interesting questions about who will fit in to the system and play because I think 5-3-2 (3-5-2) will be his preferred formation. I think we will be in the market for another striker to challenge for a starting place, more of a battering ram type forward IMO. But other than that I think we will supplement the squad with younger squad players.

based on the current squad…. Have I missed anyone?

keeper

3 centre backs from smith / Martin / legge / Johnson / Jones

Right wingback from  worrall / gibbo / Amoo??

left wingback from benning / hurst / Jones / amoo??

Holding midfielder from pett / walker

2 midfielders from Conlon / worrall / Taylor / worrall / garrity

2 forwards from Rodney / wilson
