It is absolutely a step down. Two steps in fact.

Clearly money motivated.

Play for Oldham in front of decent crowds v Bradford, Tranmere etc or Fylde v  Farsley Celtic and Guiseley.

It's an absolute no brainer football-wise it's Oldham all day. Can't blame Joyce for lining his pockets at his age. But he should stroll that league with his eyes shut.

Regardless of money it is a huge drop down the pyramid with some games being akin to The Dog and Duck. Whatever floats your boat i guess.

I agree - Joyce, like Brown, is one of the names the discontented keep saying we should have retained - but neither have moved onto better things...probably proving DCs point of letting them go?

Many do not agree but that is 19 players and squads are 24 this season so five signings to go and obviously two strikers are needed and a left winger but also two defenders as cover on the right side of defense so a RB and a RCB.

Has this been superseded? "(ii) in Season 2021/22 and each subsequent Season, 20 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player."

EFL Official Website - Section 6 - Players

In any case - is this a maximum squad size, rather than a mandatory one?

Still active so far as I can see. PFA were kicking off about it. Can't see any reports confirming that it's been removed

f you Google his wages (& believe the results) he’s on £5.5k/wk at Salford - their highest paid player.

Salford got rid and no-one in L2 will pay that money and he couldn't get in to a L1 team to earn it.

I was talking to someone last week who told me that Hanley Town have offered TP £600 a week contract. I immediately dismissed this as that’s a big contract for HT and would TP drop to such a lower standard.?

I’m not a fan of internationals, so for me the season is closed at the moment so thought I’d ask others opinions.

I'd be surprised if Popey didn't end up at Stockport, or Chesterfield, or even Notts County. However, there were rumours a number of weeks ago, and I stress these are uncorroborated rumours, that Salford might take a punt on Popey on a one year ticket!!!

The fact that Benning is only on a 12 month contract, is that his choosing or ours.?

If I had to bet I’d definitely say he has chosen that, not Vale. Why wouldn’t we get a good calibre player like that signed up for longer once he’s agreed to sign. We are risking going up without potentially a star player (forward planning), and it makes sense for him to sign a 1 year. If we do a Mansfield, he can say soz boys should have been in L1 last year, I’m deffo going now, but he can easily resign if he wants to.

No, nor can I so - if it's true - that means we have room for one more signing unless things change. In April the PFA threatened to launch a legal challenge to the squad size rule but that too has gone quiet. It would be helpful to know the latest position, if anyone knows!

With a tight home pitch I could see that working out for both parties

i really do think that we’ll

be playing 3 at the back this season. i don’t think clarke would’ve got all these cm’s and played 442. i think it worked for us last season. it made us solid and we over ran teams in midfield with an extra man supporting up top. i just can’t wait to be back at the vale and see what new signings come in next. i predict 2 more strikers and possibly another winger/wingback
