Still a lot of signings to get sorted......squad of 24 and even a basic 22 with 2 players for each position.....assuming 3/5/2;

We need two keepers....two full backs.....three centre backs.....another midfielder and two strikers so we need at least 10 signings and 12 for a full 24 man squad.

Vigouroux/Sweeney/Kellener/Johnson/Tshimango and perhaps Clark and Swan back on loan.

We need to get at least four or five players in this week and the four or five next week to have most of the squad signed up for pre-season.

we ve 17 players at the moment. I m sure we wont sign another 10 and certainly wont sign another 3 centre backs !

I think we ll have 2 keepers, 1 forward, 1 centre back and a utility full back signed by the start of the season, gives us 22 players.... of course if we manage to off load any of the three transfer listed guys we will replace them in addition.

I think Monthe would have fitted the bill for DC, 6ft 4 ins 26 years old a  centre half and experience of being in a play off team, big character, the kind of player Vale fans take to, someone who leads from the front makes the odd mistake but always gives 100%

Just seen Omar Beckles has left Crewe for Leyton Orient another missed ? although he does come from that neck of the woods.

Maybe the lack of signings is due to the fact we have just missed out who knows ?

Bob Newtonian expecting the transfer listed three will be gone then.....anticipating 3/5/2

Need two keepers.(Vigouroux)

Gibbons/Smith/Legge/Martin/Jones.....(need full backs and two centre backs....Clark/Sweener/Kelleher/Johnson)....don't see Legge playing regular and if not for that extension clause at 36 this season probably would have been released.

Wingers Amoo/Worrall/Hurst but if it is 3/5/2 without wingers while Hurst can play left wing back and Worrall on the right of a midfield three then Ammo will not get regular games.

If the first choice midfield three is Worrall/Walker/Conlon with Garitty and Taylor then did not the then new manager moan about only having one defensive holding midfielder last season so a holding defensive midfielder needed.

Upfront Rodney and Wilson with say Tshimango (out of contract and turn 24 in July so free) plus perhaps Swan back on loan being U21 not included in squad numbers.

So if the transfer listed go that is 14 players and 10 needed....2 keepers/4 defenders/1 midfielder/2 strikers.....as Swan is U21 then that is only 22 with two from pre-season trialists.

Don't think Legge will play regular and even if say Clark signs then if Gibbons still has injury problems  Smith is centre back AND cover at right back if Johnson signs then LCB and LB has cover for Martin (LCB) and Jones (LB).....so we really need two centre backs (Sweeney and Kelleher).....if it is 3/5/2 then in effect a back five with wing backs (although Hurst and Worrall can play wing back).....Gibbons/Smith/Legge/Martin/Jones are the only five defenders with no cover so at least two full backs and two centre backs are needed.

Sorry got no inside information on the managers plans but both have been mentioned on "One Vale Fan"....they both have been released and being out of contract are free agents...both are at the target age with league experience and seem to fit the profile for signings.

Ryan Sweeney (24) 6'4" 150 plus league games U19 & U21 caps for Ireland.

Fiacre Kelleher (25) 6'3" 150 plus league games U19 caps for Ireland.

Regardless of what happens in the National League playoff final, Ben Whitfield could be back in L2 next season...

The prolific forward, 25, is available on a summer free transfer after failing to agree a new Torquay deal.

Whitfield has scored six goals in 28 games across all competitions for Torquay this term.

The Englishman has 10 goals and nine assists in 101 League Two appearances in spells with Vale and Yeovil.

I'm unsure if I understand what prolific means.
