It would kind of make sense to take on Solanke. He could be useful cover up till the New year when Legge is back and then if he needs regular football, perhaps loaned out in January.

It would be better long-term to have a young lad with the potential to replace Legge than bringing in some mid-30's free agent.

EDIT: and if it was Amos, who's also only young. Defensive cover till the New Year and then if out of the squad on Legge's return, a loan deal to get regular football

All to do with budget but I'd like to see us sign Amos and Solanke.

Amos was highly rated by Doncaster fans and, with Benning on a 1 year deal, it's sensible succession planning to have a potential replacement ready to go and bedded in. Could be loaned in the meantime as Jones and Benning have LWB held down.

Solanke is the sort of player we should look to sign (lots of games at Cat 1 academy), and played nearly half of his PL2 games at CB. Unlikely to get many minutes but, for what would be a lowish wage, maybe worth the outlay.

Agree with the above that both Solanke and Amos would be worth signing but the fact that the club is still not in a reserve league kinda hinders player development but then again either or both could go out on loan in January.

Any reason given as to why no reserve league? Guess it's due to having a much leaner squad and very few players in between 18-21 (ineligible for U18 games but not ready for senior football). Might be something that happens over the coming 2-3 years with changes to the youth set up.

Apparently he's arranging friendlies once a month so it fits around what he wants rather than committing to the central league where you have play on a fixed date. So if we've had games Saturday and Tuesday we won't have to then play a reserve match Wednesday.

Do we really need another centre half?

We have Jones, Smith, Johnson, Martin and Cass who all play centre half

We have Worrall, Gibbons, Benning and Hurst who can play wing back (excluding Jones and Cass)

If we are really struggling we also have Walker who could drop back as short term cover at centre half.

We also have Rodney, Politic and Amoo who could play on the wing if we were in a really bad way and had to switch to 4 at the back.

Another centre half feels like a bit of a luxury to me.

Amos is a left back I think. Personally I don’t class Jones or cass as wing backs, I don’t think that position will suit them or us long term. Yes maybe filling in for the odd game but not for a prolonged period.
