Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

I can see both sides of this coin to be honest. He's a coming in to be our fourth choice striker, he's young, out of contract so probably eager to impress and learn from older pros. In that sense what does his goalscoring record matter, it only matters what he does for Vale, and if he gets a run of games in a month or twos time and hits the ground running, we will all be saying what a great coup this was.

On the other hand, DC has already said he's missed a couple of his first choice signings, and this strikes as a rushed "anyone will do" sort of signing. Seems hard to believe that is the case given "the process" but the manager has openly admitted this guy wasn't top of his list so where on that list is he. As someone said above, if we want a player with good energy who's gonna run around a lot, we should be using Eden Bailey and saving the cash.

Wish you all the best George, come and prove the doubters wrong.

On the face of it I was a little bit surprised with the Lloyd singing however thinking about our squad Proctor and Wilson are clearly a promising partnerships so why would you want to break that up?With Rodney and Amoo waiting in the wings to attack with pace and power that doesn't leave much scope for a 5th striker. Reading descriptions of the player sounds like he is the type to run his <ovf censored> off and chase everything down to put defenders under pressure. How can you not get behind a player like that? Generally these type of strikers don't score many goals but do tend to create chances indirectly (not credited with the final pass) by winning the ball high up the pitch so for me the stats are not really interesting, other than the number of appearance made by a 21 year old which is very impressive.

It's going to be interesting to see what Lloyd can bring to the table  and how DC will use him.

My guess is that one of the players missed out on will be Scrimshaw (the lad that’s loves scoring against us).

He has gone to Scunthorpe who will potentially have been able to offer him and his parent club Bournmouth more of a guarantee of starting games.

We were after a 4th choice striker that offers us something different. Looks to me like that’s what we have got.

Eden Bailey is nowhere near ready physically to compete at L2 football and a would harm his development doing it now.

So what will Lloyd add? That is a genuine question. That’s all I would like to know as I think all our strikers work hard with or without the ball, as proved by Proctor and Wilson at the weekend.

How is he?

Proctor - Big strong target man
Wilson - pacy and technically gifted
Rodney - very pacy and rangy
Lloyd - Pressing and grafting forward

Looks to me to be completely different to what we have

Seems a complete waste of a signing IMO. Why would a young lad with virtually no goalscoring record, who is being let go on loan by the might of Cheltenham, get a game ahead of Wilson, Proctor, Rodney and even Amoo?

Pointless exercise after the manager had said he wouldn’t “squad fill for the sake of it”.

Cover for main strikers Proctor and Wilson,  also slightly taller than Tony Naylor.

Really hope this is the case and we have to give him our support until we have first seen in a Vale shirt (which could be tomorrow night).

DC has already admitted that he has lost out on other potential targets, then bigs up the fact he needs specific criteria for a striker. He then signs a relative unknown with no scoring record.

Other than praising his work rate I’m really not sure what he will bring to the squad. I genuinely thought that he was going to try and get someone more physical upfront. I’m sure DC will dress this up as a great signing, which he may be, but he is similar to what we already have isn’t he?

Well it's not really for you or us here to be sure about what the lad will bring to the squad. I'm pretty sure that Clarke and Fltcroft have done a bit of research on him other than simply checking out his Wiki. He's young, hungry and has had considerably more experience in league football than Bailey. That will do for me if he's to be fourth choice.

When Rodney and co have run them all over the park for 80 mins, bringing on a grafter who chases defenders down and pressures them with fresh legs sounds like a good tactical move for DC to have.

One things for sure, with this or any signing. To go on to twitter or facebook and openly deride and abuse a player who has come to sign for our club is a disgrace and those "fans" who do it are nothing short of pathetic.

The lad was tagged into posts with people laughing at his goalscoring record and calling it a sh!t signing. What is that going to do to his confidence?
