Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

Is Tshimanga actually out of contract though? Appears he played in a friendly for Borehamwood yesterday and scored. Would be worth a look but seems like a lot of clubs have been mentioned but none pulled the trigger and does make me wonder what they are seeing when looking at the video on him or if the asking price is just too much.

Tshimanga is back doing pre-season training at Borehamwood and played in that friendly but hasn't signed yet....seems to have failed in two league 1 trials but maybe a step up too far and maybe league 2 would be a better next move....out of contract and just turned 24 and some say therefore a free transfer others that it is the players age last april so a tribunal fee....a little confused so if anyone knows the score on this....any fee now must be nominal like a mini bus with an MOT.

There is a clammer for pace in the team at the moment, which I would also like, as it is exciting to watch… but my question is whether we actually need it.

And this is a genuine question because I can’t remember… but who were the players at Cambridge, Cheltenham and Morcambe that provided game changing pace?

Good shout

Certainly wasn't Mullin, Ironside or Hoolahan at Cambridge !!

Good point however I would argue the league was extremely weak last season. Even with those promoted sides having a lack of pace it’s still something that could be a real asset for us to have on the bench. Personally I do think we need at least one pacey player to sign either LW or up top.

Without wishing to sound negative, it's not a question of naming names, you could see it several times last night our midfield had to haul down Owls players as they simply ran past us.  OK, so they'll have a bit more pace throughout the side than many we'll play against next season, but, as I remember it, last season numerous teams were able to break in numbers on us in games and we had no answer.  We didn't carry the same threat ourselves.  I don't see Pett and Walker being all that athletic and I think if they get caught upfield they'll be treading water.  Also, I don't see any real pace apart from Rod.  Amoo won't figure much at a guess and Hurst and Wozz aren't real speed merchants.

Perhaps the 2 signings talked about will add some pace to the attack.

I don't think it's a major issue, more an observation.

Edit: having just read the comment above, I'll add Wilson to the list but still not enough in my book.

Dont get me wrong, I would love a bit of pace to sign.

Lets not forget that Amoo is rapid and Wilson, although he is a bit older used, to be labelled one of the fastest player at United when he was there (There is an official video of him being shown off as such somewhere that I saw recently)... EDIT: Just seen that BA has referenced the same video.

One thing I would say about Wilson is he looked knackered at Kidsgrove then missed a few games due to a knock... I think we will see a faster player when the season starts.

Benning is also no Slouch.

I would back our new players to beat the old players in a foot race.... I cant think of many speed merchants out of:

Cullen, Pope, McKirdy, Joyce, Robinson, Whitehead, Burgess, Guthrie or even Crooks who Sproson laughably claimed was the fastest at the club.

I would struggle to name a genuinely pacey player in league 2 that plays in the defensive midfield role.

We were done for pace a lot last night even Rodney at times but they had a lot of really fast players and I doubt we will come up against that kind of speed every week in league two. What we have to realise is they had a 20 million pound budget last year so you would expect them to be quicker
We looked vulnerable down the wings first half but he sorted it second half and as others have said we didn't get behind them enough but I thought we made a good account of ourselves

One thing pace does is terrifies lower league defenders

Look at Enoch Andoh. Pure pace .

I don't think we are that bad really but for example Walker would beat Joyce in a sprint if we are going like for like.

Likewise Proctor would beat Pope.

Swan would be a good shout though he got frozen out or was he injured ?

Got to add that Taylor is quite quick and very mobile while Garitty is said to be a bit of a roadrunner then Gibbons is quickish as is Benning and also Jones looks to have a bit of speed across the ground....for defenders....perhaps the team were still knackered from that three sessions a day week long training camp an all in all headbanger who dares wins week.

Thought Swan had pace and is young and hopefully improving. Could do worse as 4th striker and good one to bring on to offer something different if we could get him back on loan.

...not sure that Forest or Swan would view Vale as a team where he would get enough game time and minutes on the pitch. Especially if he came as the fourth striker, as some posters feel he would be.
