Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

Bailey looks physically strong. I was surprised at Kidsgrove when DC said he was "a 17 year old kid". (A reference he made when the Kidsgrove CB held him on the floor in the second half and DC commented that the said CB hadn't done that to Devantey first half, he'd waited for the 17 year old kid!"

Just think it be a big ask for a 17 year old up against seasoned pro centre halves, not very often you get players of that age making a mark in league 2, happy to be proved wrong though.  I have not seen him play yet so should not judge but feel better if we can get that 4th striker in.  Clarke likes to play 2 up top, 2 strikers needed on the bench.

It's one thing Man City playing with no recognised striker, League 2 is completely different, you have to have someone up there.

It's all relative. City (and Barca, under Pep) did it because they have top players for that division.  2 up top doesn't necessarily mean 2 strikers on the bench - how often do teams change 2 strikers during a game? We could certainly draft people in as auxiliary strikers, if need be - I haven't yet mentioned Jake Taylor? Tom Conlon is an intelligent footballer and could...at least...make a nuisance of himself, or nab a goal or two.  In the same way that people see teams having to stick rigidly to a system. they see players being glued to a position - yet outfield players have successfully taken on the very specialist GK role in an emergency. Allow people to use  their instincts and nous if we get reduced to having no strikers on the park or bench?

We have 4 strikers...and I don't see the point in sending a promising young player out on loan? If he does the business, I'd rather he did it with us! January we can reassess the situation.

Having noticed the Marston’s Brewery advertisements around the ground at the Vale v Forest game, I’m especially looking forward to ‘releasing’ Marston’s for a more ‘local lad’. Titanic Brewery would be very nice. A Plum Porter would go down a treat.

Didn't Carol say that Coors had the option of a contract extension as in order to meet their terms we need to sell so many units per season.  Obviously that didn't happen last year.  Vale want to look at a more local supply once the contract expires, who knows if that'll be Titanic but it would be great IMHO if it was.  I might actually buy something.

It just goes to show if you're good enough you're old enough. Rarely do we see young talent emerge with any great immediacy. If you've been a follower of any football club for any length of time, we all know it can sometimes happen, so in that sense, why not Eden Bailey? What has happened with Clarke is quite refreshing, he would appear to be giving everyone a chance, including youth. If pre season isn't about optimism for fans then I don't know when is. I read earlier in the thread where someone said that we would be silly to expect top three, well I'll go one dafter- CHAMPIONS of league two with all sorts of records being broken. And god forbid if we're not, however I won't be any more disappointed than those who don't believe we can do it now. There's nowt wrong with a bit of belief, it's served winners well through the ages.

And it's not about having to rely on a youngster - it's about giving him the chance to show what he can do! Why send him out on loan? I can understand Chelsea / Arsenal hoovering up 50+ youngsters, then sending them out on loan otherwise they wouldn't get any game minutes at all - but the Vale? He's more likely to be up against bruisers in lower League than making a sub appearance with us, or playing in one of the Cup competitions. Being around the first team squad must be better in our League than one or two lower? International teams have included youngsters who had no chance of playing - just for the experience of mixing with the seniors and being involved in training and tactics. There's plenty of room on the subs bench...and we can't use them all, but he would give us an option - a nuisance option.

It might benefit the youngster to be sent out on loan. To play at a lower level which he may be better suited to and gain experience and then come back in a years time when ready. Not saying that’s Bailey per say as he seems strong enough. However it makes complete sense to send young players out on loan. It depends whether vale think he will gain more from being around our squad and playing the odd 5 mins here and there, or out on loan playing 90 mins at a decent level. Still think we need some pace up top, whether that be a wide man and or another forward but we certainly need some more pace (whether Bailey stays with us or moves on loan)

I can see him keeping Solanke(maybe 12mth deal)

Bailey will probably get loaned out but i hope its to a national league north or south team and not just a local one like Kidsgrove just for the experience of a higher level of mens game,so he can come back and maybe get a place on the bench for us
