Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

Doha

Off on a tangent - anyone know the situation with Michael Lennon and Ammar Dyer? There was a story in the Sentinel back in May about them both being given a six week trial. but no information on when the trial starts or ends. I presume it started when the players came back for training (which I think was the 28th June going by the tweet by @OfficialVale showing the players on the training ground).

They both played at the weekend (Lennon in both games, Dyer against Stafford) so I guess the trial is still ongoing.

i m not arguing for or against Askey to be manager. Clarke and Flitcroft are at the helm now. I m just bemused how Flitcroft and Clarke have almost got free reign for you whether they do well or badly according to your last posts. If results are similar or the same as to how Askey or any of our previous managers have done why are you saying you aren’t going to question it and let it go?

I hope Flitcroft and Clarke do succeed like any manager. Any management team though however they are structured should be treated equally , fairly and should both be scrutinised the same?

it’s not a simplified gotcha, I m just pointing out you can’t have it both ways.

They're not comparable though.

Clarke's had 18 games and overseen a complete squad rebuild. We are now tied to a new direction and sacking a manager early doors will undo all the work Clarke has put in to rebuild it, without giving it chance to click. He needs the season. Flitcroft chose Clarke and is building a squad to suit his style.

Askey had nearly 100 games and had 3 windows under Carol to improve the squad, and failed to do through either choice or incompetence in the market. He didn't have a transfer plan bar Sproson + Macclesfield's 17/18 squad, and gambled on assembling the joint-oldest squad in the league, without innovating/improving his tactics, and failed to deliver. He was 3 windows in and the best 11 was 90% the same when he arrived. I didn't have faith he could replace the declining squad he'd neglected to improve, or adjust his setup to freshen it up when it became clear his approach had been figured out. He didn't have the track record in this league (like Clarke does) or of a rebuild (like Clarke does). His time had come, and he'd done the job he was brought into do; steady the ship and get us trending upwards. I didn't trust him to complete the rebuild we so obviously needed.

They aren't comparable at all. They're completely different situations and far too simplified to use the exact same criteria for them. Clarke has more leeway than Askey, at present, for me as A) he's had less time in the job and B) has proven success in this sort of project and in League 2 C) is fundamental to a complete structural rethink of what the club is trying to do. After 91 games and three windows and with an old squad + a woeful transfer record, then yes, the same criteria will apply. I don't know why we're still bringing Askey up. He's long gone.

Thankfully, I'm genuinely not bothered about 'credibility'.

Looks like Lewis Cass incoming.

Young right back from Newcastle who spent last year at Hartlepool.

He played 34 games for them and was voted young player of the season. Their fans were desperate to sign him up again.

He’s a right back/centre back. Ticks the boxes.
