Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

If the transfer listed players start pre-season then it looks difficult to get them gone as why would a club sign them and pay full wages instead of a loan deal with Port Vale paying majority wages and no players wants to take a wage drop....so unless they are out training with other clubs and having trials all three will do pre-season and end up registered taking up three squad places because in the budget if the club is paying these wages then the squad will be short and while paying the wages they might as well be registered to play and in a small squad with injuries will get games......so at the moment we don't seem to be able to sign the players needed before pre-season starts and don't seem able to move on players that the manager doesn't want anymore.

Or you just haven’t been told what is happening inside the club. They don’t need to tell us every time a club asks about one of our players or every player we are interested in.

That escalated quickly!

From “if Theo turns up for a training session” to “we can’t sign any decent players and it’s al going wrong” in one post!

Cue inevitable meltdown on OVF

Well I for one am outraged, OUTRAGED I tell you, that the club would do this to us. I had planned to spend an afternoon obsessively checking OVF and Twitter for signings, F5ing like a good 'un, but now I'm going to have to actually work - ACTUAL BLOODY WORK! - on a Friday afternoon, and not just any Friday either, but kit launch day, THE most sacred day of the year for any football fan.

This indignity visited upon us fans should not pass without retribution; I do not care who is responsible for this particular glitch in the MATRIX, but as he is the public face of Vale I believe Tideswell should be paraded through Burslem, with his bare arse hanging out as a sign of his contrition, publicly apologising to all the townspeople. BOOOO VALE and BOOOO the MATRIX!!!!! Down with this sort of thing. DTV. Etc. 😡😤👇

Was that the kind of thing you were thinking of Phil?

Too far?

Iron Curtain "That escalated quickly!"

No signings today but there is still monday/tuesday/wednesday to sign 10 players to complete the squad for pre-season to benefit from all that important technical coaching and fitness conditioning....we don't seem to be on schedule to get the squad sorted before pre-season where that vast squad of specialist coaching staff can work their science based magic.....still a lot of work to do on sorting out the squad you must agree and perhaps a tad behind schedule.

But the point about the transfer listed three is are they training at other clubs and going to trials in an effort to move on or are they just going to do pre-season at Port Vale and hang around thereafter with maybe a loan move where Vale pay majority wages or just end up registered taking up three squad places.....they are either out looking for a move or at pre-season training and kinda likely in the squad to make up for the three players the manager couldn't sign because the wages.

So in summary it will be interesting if they are at pre-season training or are training elsewhere actively  looking for a move.....either way the moves will likely be loans or they stay such that the manager will either way miss out on two or three players.....so the manager therefore can't sign decent players that might have been in the plans and in terms of the heavy investment in the backroom staff for the "elite" pre-season it must have gone a bit wrong if nearly half the squad won't feel the full benefit.

I get what you are trying to say... but I think we can all agree that there a fair number of assumptions in your thinking.

Not least that DC and Flickers planned to get every single player in the club by the start of pre season training.

Clubs all the way up and down the country will start pre season without all their players. It would be incredibly rare for it to be any other way.

Sit back, relax and watch it unfold.

Although I agree there is no need for a meltdown due to lack of signings today, I do think the vale are missing a huge opportunity on communications…. It used to be so slick under Max with content, interaction and videos that kept the fans engaged.
Bradford today have released videos of Eisa highlights and are engaging with their fans… we had one video of one Brad Walker goal and that was it, nothing for the other signings.
There was one short interview with Garrity, and then that’s it, nothing from the other players.
Is this a missed opportunity? We are supposed to be whipping up the fan base, increasing engagement and it’s feels a little like we are going backwards.
We are trying to sell season tickets and build the excitement around the club. Carol deserves it.
I feel like we are missing a trick.

To be very clear, I’m not ranting about:
1. A lack of signings - they will come
2. The official Twitter feed not quite reading the room around closed season… when fans hear “its going to be a busy week” in a transfer window, their minds go to one place and one place only. It leads to disappointment when it means something else - the new guy will learn the ropes and I’m sure this will improve, but a lesson learnt maybe
3. Martin Tideswell dismissing people’s frustration at the lack of clear engagement by simple saying “Dunna Mither” - I’m sure it’s done with good intentions

Exactly this, the club is definitely missing a trick....

come back max, all is forgiven,😄:drink:

If the players are under contract which they all are then they should be at pre-season training. The best way for them to move on is do what Connell Rawlinson did when Askey transfer listed him and put in some work and impress another club enough to sign him or who knows maybe even change DC's mind. They are however under no obligation to look for a new club themselves, as far as they are concerned they are all under contract so both sides have to honour it until they are no longer here. I'd also question the truism that we need them to leave to sign anyone decent, that is a hell of an assumption to make.

As a comparison how many squads are really "complete" by this point anyway? There's nothing that can't be made up in good time if they come after the start of the pre-season training. It's more the likes of Jake Taylor I think who are going to benefit from a full pre-season in any case.

The transfer listed players don't have to go anywhere or do anything. They are paid by PVFC for another 12 months. Their agents should be looking at getting them a new club but if nobody wants them then they stay where they are as contracted players of PVFC.

The Transfer Window does not close until 31st of August  so lots can change before then, 1 or 2 of them  could force their way into the squad or be snapped up after the season has begun, not something that concerns me at present. However  I will be happier when the goalkeepers are announced,

Not saying the manager needs them to leave "to sign anyone decent" but they are not wanted by the manager and are transfer listed...the manager will sign good players regardless but probably just two or three less new players if the situation is not resolved.....they are under contract and are are entitled to sit out said contracts and watch some good football.

Never said or thought the whole 24 man squad would be complete for pre-season but certainly 20 plus however we have 14 players the manager wants so far and just maybe a handfull of signings next week and the squad will start to fill up......over the first so many days and weeks of pre-season one by one others will sign....so hopefully a busy start to next week.
