Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

I remember this ridiculously young Man Utd team playing Port Vale and knocking us out of the cup. Next year the ridiculously young team won the Premier League.

It wasn't the same team that won the league. The average age of the league winning side was higher than people remember as the likes of Irwin, Schmeichel, Cole, McClair, Cantona and Pallister were still playing. Butt and Neville played 30 games that season, Beckham and Scholes less. What that side did show was a side containing good young players could be successful. The quote from (Hanson?) is the one that lived in the memory from a game early in the season when United won with all 4 playing. Sharpe and Giggs were still young players in 95/96 but they were quite experienced by then.

Walker is a chancer due to his injury  concerns and Garritty is similar and lacks league experience,i want experienced pro's,the likes of Andy Cook and an established left back, players who have that quality to get promotion.

You will be disappointed with the majority of signings then... you need to get yourself prepared for that.

We may sign one or two Andy cook types, but his resale value is ZERO, no opportunity whatsoever to make money in him... I think that’s a big part of the matrix.

I can’t see us taking the Salford approach at all... thankfully

Why are some so desperate for us to fail? And who exactly are you expecting us to sign as a league 2 side that has consistently struggled in the past? He hasn’t had the best reviews, let’s see how he does here and then judge him. There will be a host of other signings to come, we don’t know what squad roles these players will take up, garrity sounds more like a burgess / whitehead replacement and Walker to start in place of Joyce. Let’s wait and see how they play for us.

I think the signings so far could play at League 1 level and have scope to improve with coaching. It seems to me that is exactly what is needed to get promoted from League 2 and with a stable team that doesn't need much further change secure a good position in League 1.
So I too can regret Manny leaving. He did well relatively when he was in the team in his time at PV. But the fact is League 2 was a career high level for him and he was injury prone. I sense he was happy to go to Chesterfield and plough a furrow with a former coach in the National League. He could surprise me if Chesterfield get promoted!
I'm sorry that is nonsense. How do you know these new players can play at league 1? One certainly couldn't get into a league one team on a regular basis and the general consensus of Shrewsbury fans is he is a nice guy and has a great shot but that is about it. Garrity is a complete gamble, as was Manny.
Manny was the best central midfielder we had and he definitely had the talent to play at a higher level, it just appears his body wasn't up to it. I suspect he left knowing he would be released, as everyone else was, and wanted some security especially with having a young family.

I don’t think manny was a gamble. He was about the best player in the conference and a number of sides were after him. I agree with your assessment of him. I thought he was excellent and seems to have proved his fitness at Chesterfield and the last 8 or so games with us

It is interesting that both players we have signed were out injured for months last season. Neither of their clubs wanted to keep them. Either DF and DC and RC3PO are playing a blinder. Or we are signing up more garbage

Walker was released from Shrewsbury in the league above but may have been retained had he not had a serious ankle injury in the new manager's first game.

Garrity had his contract extended by a team promoted into the Championship who knew we were going to sign him and wanted to get a bit of money for him.

Yes Walker has injury concerns and Garrity is unproven at this level (or at least Oldham fans seem to think so) but apparently they both had interest from other League Two clubs so we're surely not being too 'out there' on signing these pair.

DC was derided by Walsall fans, they were proved wrong....

Don't quite understand what you mean. Walsall fans still deride Clarke. Bristol and Vale fans like him because he has done well at the clubs. Walsall fans don't because he did less well. He made 2 real coups at Walsall in Joules and Adebayo but there fans feel most of his signings didn't come off; particularly his rebuild in summer 19. It is a big window for Clarke, if he gets it right and we go on to bigger and better things he'll probably get a Championship club next. If he gets it wrong he'll be looking at The Conference. It is an easier window for him than 2019 because he only took the job during the close season. There is lots of reasons to believe he will do better for us.

There does remain an element of contradiction in some of his statements since joining. He has said we had better players than Walsall. He's also claimed to be a recruitment specialist. Whilst he did have budgetary constraints last summer he also got a lot of backing the previous year. One has to hope he will leave us with better players than those he left behind at Walsall.

Welcome to the club Brad Walker and Ben Garrity let's hope with the right fitness and will to win you are good fits for the club .

Regardless of what you were allegedly like at other clubs if you do the business at Vale and want to be successful and can be part of a squad of players who can play together and more importantly create a great team spirit then you can make especially in Garritys case Oldham fans eat there words .

Let's hope that's the case a young hungry team who get Vale park rocking

UTV .

Think there might be a fair amount of collaboration between local newspapers 😉

Change the headline and use the cut and paste function ... job done, thankyou Google, tell the wife or husband I've had a busy day!

I do think some fans dont realise the model we are now trying to follow for the long term benefit of the club

We will bring in a couple of experienced players i am sure of that but the majority will be around the ages we have signed so far and there will be a few around the age of 20. Will we be prepared to pay the wage an Andy Cook would demand,i doubt it but we will see.

I have been guilty in the past of being frustrated at our lack of so called known signings but i buy into the vision that the club now has, those teams promoted(bar Bolton) had very few known signings in them so it doesn't always work

Having an opinion on a signing doesn't mean you want the club to fail.

You are correct. But I think the point V593 is making is that some posters are critical about literally everything.

It's great to have debates, but balanced ones surely. Let's be honest not a soul on here knows the first thing about Garrity .

He played probably 10-15 more times than Whitehead and Burgess combined in the same division last season.

I have to agree with V593, we can't win, someone with only 34 games is a chancer, someone with 350 games will be a journeyman.

I don't know what people are expecting. We have had 3 seasons where our actual league status was in jeopardy. Serious jeopardy. Do we carry on with the same bumbling approach ?

A few of Clarke's signings won't be great but must surely prove an upgrade on the likes of Mills, Fitz, Whitehead, etc etc.

If we are making 15 signings we already probably have 5 starters so the maths suggest that most will be squad players.

Smith, Gibbons , Conlon, Worrall, Rodney the only first team starters left in my view .

What we need is better replacement's for the inevitable injuries and suspension. Last year's squad meant if we had maybe 3 of our best X1 out we were dreadful.

I'm more than happy with a total reset and we might have to have patience, not something football fans are good at, including myself.
