Transfer rumours, targets & new signings

Jake Taylor is falling into that well known OVF category where his performances improve the less he plays.

He doesn’t need to be given a chance, he needs to earn it.  Aside from the Liverpool u23 and a couple of show pony 10 minutes with games already won he has shown precious little since returning to us.

TBF to him, he's (rightly) not been given a proper chance as we're pretty well stocked in central midfield. He needs one of the current 3 (or Politic) to be out of action for 3 or 4 games if he's to prove himself to management. Having said that, I do think DC likes him as when fit he's generally in the matchday squad. He's done ok when he has come on although hasn't really had enough minutes to make much of an impression.

After a poor debut game for England. Sir Alf told the player not to worry as he was going to get a run of games to prove himself.

The player was Kevin Keegan. Hopefully, we will give any January signing a similar opportunity and not write them off as Jake Taylor is being.

BTW  talking of England can you name 3 England captains who played for Scunny?

Thats catch 22 for him then, show us your worth playing but we dont give you the minutes to show us

Pre season, training day after day, extra sessions, general attitude, game changing impact in the minutes they are given (such as Politic, albeit seems to offer less when starting)

Garrity did not start the season as first choice, but has earned that role with a combination of all these.

As a matter of interest which of Pett, Conlon or Garrity (or Walker) would you drop to give him the chance to see if the early season 2019-20 (he did not play in our best run of results and performances post Man City) or subsequent (with us and Scunny) is the real Jake Taylor?

I would rotate him with Garrity or Walker or give him a longer run out as sub, wasnt picking fault with your post or your logic but its unfair to expect the guy to prove himself if he cant get minutes
He can't get minutes because he's injured or coming back from injury and has been playing catch up all season. For me he's a replacement for conlon if or when he leaves.

I wonder if the fixture pile up has changed the thinking for the transfer window.

I think it will make it more difficult to bring players in. Clubs maybe reluctant to let anyone go because of a combination of ongoing Covid problems and fixture pile ups. Possibly still get some players in on loan from premiership academies but players with league experience will be hard to come by.

With the fixture pile up the teams going up will be those with the best squads to cope playing Tuesday,Saturday from Jan until early April. Bearing that in mind I'm thinking we are after more players but its going to be extremely difficult to get loans as teams stockpile players. Despite huge loss of finances over the lucrative Xmas period, Carol and Kevin may need to adjust the budget to try and get a quality striker in. Even if Proc and Will are close to resuming training I think its a big ask to put them straight in to hit the ground running. They both basically need another pre season.

I hope Flitcroft can pull a few rabbits out of the hat.
