A message to the Squad

Recommended Posts

Give Clarke's interview a listen.

He certainly doesn't thank this squad. He eviscerates them.

He's spent every day with them and I trust his judgement that some of these players have let us, Carol, and the club down with their attitudes, and some are just not good enough.

He also mentioned the "tears for some genuine boys who might not make the cut".

I trust him to lay into the ones who were slacking and to thank the ones who put the effort in. We can probably guess which categories the different players belong to.

There's some who I would happily shake their hand and wish well.

Joyce is one. Probably on his way but a good professional, hard-worker, and a good player overall. No issues with him at all. Hope he gets another season or two elsewhere.

Clarke clearly stated for some, 'they have huge hearts' but they just don't have the ability to get us promoted.

Yeah I didn't like seeing Joyce being slated on here. Solid professional, 40+ games each of his three seasons here. But yes, nearly 600 games as a professional in League Two and no promotions suggests he hasn't quite got the quality required for the job next season.

Confidence is huge in football. Just look at Joe Hart if you need an example. Pep destroyed his confidence. In the autumn and early winter we suffered numerous turnarounds and late goals, h& ad our own that may have turned the tide disallowed against Scunthorpe (I think). The players have managed to overcome that and turn the tide albeit after a manager has lost their job.

Their is this idea that players down tools and don't try. That may be the case for the odd player but you don't tend to make it as a professional footballer if you don't have a drive to win. The losses will hurt most of the players almost as much as us. They know if they don't perform they could well end up stacking shelves or driving a taxi.

You have poisoned enough threads with your bitterness. This thread is to thank the players for their efforts so if you haven't got anything positive to say butt out and state your opinions on the countless other threads available to you.
Conceding so many late goals was more to do with poor fitness and lack of professionalism.

This group of players have been a disgrace and go down in my memory as being some of the worse to wear the shirt.

Good riddance.

Your standards in life are clearly much much lower than mine.

Still odd that a 30-year old with 75 England caps just completely loses form and it never returns, and without an injury or anything.

GK is a position like no other in the team. The position is a lot about mentality. Its not just Hart, -  Paul Robinson,Jack Butland, Robert Green. The position. is littered with the game GK's who never really recover from a bad gaffe or two.

Thanks to the squad for playing for my team. Thank you to my fellow fans for paying money for whatever in to PVFC. Thank you to the manager and his staff. And last of all, Thank you to our owners. Who are without doubt the best in football. UTV.

Everyone seems to forget that last season we conceded and scored late goals. We harried teams and closed them down even late in games which obviously required fitness. This year we didn't get the rub of the green with those which had a knock on effect of lowering confidence. This made us mentally fragile so we were often desperate to hold on rather than take the game to the opposition.

Are you saying that when an outfield player doesn't recover from a bad gaffe or two it is because they don't care or have decided to down tools and nothing to do with mentality?

No. I'm saying you cannot compare outfield players and GK's. If an outfield player makes a mistake it doesn't always get highlighted nor ends up conceding a goal. Outfield players can afford to make mistakes and are given more of a licence to do so by managers, otherwise they would never try to make things happen. Outfield players are constantly on the move involved in the game one way or another and don't have time to think about a mistake during the game.

GK's don't have any of that luxury.Mistakes usually leads to a goal. Errors are often replayed time and time again. its a completely different mindset for a GK than the rest of the team.

Outfield players do down tools for many different factors, we have seen that this season.
