Players released from other clubs

Not really. There's many reasons why players are released. Sometimes it's simply finances. So I don't see why we should favour one over the other

Especially after a year of no fans costing clubs money. One of the reasons I'm confident and excited for next season is the club is being run by real supporters and Askey wasn't appointed in his position by the current owners, so Clarke and Flitcroft coming in has been a real state of intentions of getting out of this league and I think when it comes to recruiting new players for next season, the finances will be looked at, not in the short term costs but what can be achieved in the long term.

At this level, it's rarely done this way. Unless you're Salford...

There is an argument that the players on the released lists are rubbish and not required by the parent club, sometimes a player not may wish to stop at a club, so asks to be released, he might want to move for various reasons, living in digs, living away from the wife, living away from from someone else's wife !  the Mrs giving him grief because she is on her own with a young familly and he's at the other end of the country, the amount of travelling required. so it's not necassarily a negative in my opinion, that a player is on a released list,it's down to the skills of those doing the recruitment and the noises coming from the club are that they are taking more due dilligence and care this close season, so fingers crossed for a better quality squad next season.

Swindon:

Anthony Grant - Would we, now 33

Tom Broadbent, 29yo backup CB

Paul Caddis - 33yo RB

Lee Camp - 36yo Keeper

Anthony Cheshire - 19yo youth team defender

Ezekiel Fryers - Substitute left back, 28yo

Massimo Giamattei - Midfielder, 0 games

Joel Grant - 33yo Winger forward who lives locally and has been keen to join us for a while. If Askeyt was manager my guess is he would definitely have joined this summer.

Hallam Hope - Rumours we were after him last summer, AMF / Fwd, did well at carlisle, 27yo

John Johnston - 26yo Midfielder didnt play much

Archie Matthews - 19yo youth team GK

Christopher Missilou - 28yo sub midfielder

Matty Palmer - 26yo midfielder. 5 games on loan at wigan

All clubs seem to be releasing loads. I suppose the best will be quickly snapped up . I think there is going to be a few on the dole!

I think the current squad limit is the main reason for this.

I think clubs are spying their chance to drive wages down too. It’s a buyers market and with covid happening then clubs will want to reduce wages across the board. What better way then get big hitters off the books and bring in decent players on less wages.

Should we be more interested in players other clubs have made offers to rather than those released?

You can turn the objective around, and look at our list from other clubs pov. Can't imagine Brown being without a club for long. Pope will be swept up, as will Joyce. Guthrie and Cullen will also get a club, albeit maybe in the NL. Brisley as well, sure to be signed if not by a L2 club, then surely a NL club. The only downpoint for our best released players, are their age. Not exactly spring chickens anymore, but still has good quality for NL, that's for sure!

Really its always been a bit of a merry-go-round. It's been complicated this season by clubs not knowing squad sizes for next season. A lot of clubs have also changed manager; so want to bring in their own players. I doubt wages will come down overall. There are a lot of inconsistent players at this level; some players of the lists have had good seasons in recent memory but not done much this season.

I think its more to do with finances and the uncertainty of next season rather than squad sizes. Clubs have to prepare for the worst in terms of covid protocols playing matches, which is an expense even before you get fans through the turnstile. If there is a period in late autumn/winter when fan numbers are restricted or even not allowed at all a few clubs will be on their knees.

We are in an extremely fortunate position.

Now he is someone who ticks a lot of boxes for me. Direct running style from the left always gets himself on the back stick which is why he has a half decent record playing out wide. A bit of pace, physically strong and versatile enough to play centrally if needed as backup to Rodders.

Would anybody fancy a Conor McAleny and Hallam Hope partnership?

McAleny turned down a new deal at Oldham and DF thought highly of Hope when at Bury

Would Love McAleny... but think I read somewhere that there were a bunch of league 1 clubs after him
