I'd love to hijack some contract renewal negotiations at Crewe. Don't even want the players, just pressure the tramp in having to concede higher wages because Flitters sent Wintle and Porter's agents a cheeky contract offer on whatsapp. Banter.

Flitters the absolute mad man has already done it. Hero.

Fleetwood Town:

Paul Coutts - Midfield, 32 yo, On loan at Salford

Mark Duffy - 35 year old attacking midfielder whose career was ruined by Stoke

Sam Finley - 28 yo midfielder, player 27 games last year their fans very surprised he has been released

Josh Morris - 29 yo left sided defender (Left of a back three) / DM, 5ft 11, Ever present in 19/20 season, 7 appearances from the bench this year.

Harvey Saunders - 23 year old striker, lots of loans around lower league but twitter comments indicate that their fans rate him as do opposition fans

Nathan Sheron - 23yo DM who can play at the back, played 26 times in league 1 in 18/19 was on loan at walsall under DC this year. They dont rate him... which probably means he could come here having escaped the toxic shell company that only exists to hold an advertisement hording and break some records like DC managed

Glenn Whelan - 37yo

Michael Fowler - 20yo striker in development squad

Laurence Smith - 20yo midfielder in development squad

Morris and Finley would be good.

I, of course, won't rule out good players signing, but I had hoped that we move away from signing players already known to the manager.

Benning, Sweeney, Nicholls, Clarke, Gordon, McDonald; probably all decent players, but hopefully the new recruitment setup has identified more varied targets. I won't be moaning if we do sign a couple of them, though.

Most managers do it though not just vale ones, they often sign players they have worked with and/or trust

Sam Finley from Fleetwood, please.

Good experience, 28, a player actually in his prime. Seems to have been a steady contributor in League 1. Loads of energy, and apparently a few League 1 clubs would fancy him. Fleetwood fans surprised he's been released.

He got a similar ban to Pope for abusive language, mind.

Is it the Morris ex Scunthorpe ? He always notched a few but thought played further forward.

Probably a different one

No, the same one, he's a bit of a utility man these days. Played on the left and right wing for them this season. Would be happy with him.

And what's that, who's compiled the data, what data is used, how is it used etc.

I say Matrix in jest, as Flitters mentioned it once in his first interview and it was just very David Brent.

We advertised for a data analyst a while ago, and part of the requirements was experience with StatsBomb, one of the largest and most successful football data consultancy firms.

I know that Dan Thompson is involved, as well as Michael Johnson. There is also an American called Daniel Levy who pops up on LinkedIn as a Data Analyst Intern for us, but I've no idea if that's legitimate. He could theoretically do it remotely.

With StatsBomb, they can provide a lot of the data analysis for the club, for a fee. Otherwise, they just give access to their databases and the analysts work through it.

I imagine these fellas will work with existing scouting networks; data helps to pick out players who may be undervalued (getting in good positions but been unlucky with goals, for example). Its not perfect but it can help narrow the field, identify varied targets, which scouts can then follow up. Flitcroft's job is probably to coordinate efforts, and then provide Clarke with the results so he can pick his preferred option.

It won't be perfect but it will be an improvement on the diabolical recruitment of the past two years, I hope.
