Beating Notts County away 4-0 about 1984
Vale fans celebrating in Yates' wine lodge with a more than slightly drunk house violinist and lots of mean looking scantily clad ladies propping up the bar

No wonder you were hooked on the Vale

50 years and a bit of never-ending joy and bliss for me.  First game was a 0 - 1 home defeat to Torquay, in a game which featured two of our future managers. Brian Horton was on his way to becoming a club legend in the proper sense of the word - and as for Torquay's number 9, he just happened to bring the best period I've ever known at the Vale in half a century of watching them.  Think I have a programme with a future England manager with a 100% record in the cupboard somewhere too....

I showed this to Eddie and the first thing he said was, “Keith Walker referee - horrible bald headed guy - useless”!!!  He has also taken a dislike to Conrad for saying he can’t remember Johnny Green, one of the greatest midfielders to wear a Vale shirt!

60+ years for me too like howjy04, cant remember my first game much (1958) but  do remember my Dad taking me away to the likes of Oldham, Bradford park Avenue and later on the kop at Liverpool in the fa cup and getting soaked to the skin at home to Sunderland when Cloughie played for them.

Memories !

That was my first away game

First home game was about 1974 against Blackburn Rovers, a Wednesday night game

I was taken by John Kemp who ran the local newsagent; I was one of his delivery boys. Mr. Kemp couldn't make Saturday games due to running his shop and I couldn't go to football on Saturdays either, As I had my own sporting stuff to do

It was a bit of an eye opener seeing weeds growing on the terraces and some parts of the ground looked like a decent storm would blow them away, but the football was 'honest' and the wit and so forth from the fans was infectious and that was me hooked for life

I remember when i was a young lad my father always took me on the hamil end but this day he said i fancy a change we will go on the lorne street. So off we go gets on the lorne street he puts me on the barrier stands behind me about ten minutes in the match Reg Potts the vales left back in those days cleared the ball out of play hit me in the chest and knocked me off the barrier into my dads arms needless to say the next match we retreated to the hamil end again but its all in a day of being a vale fan.

I bet you sat right behind us because that's where John used to sit.  I remember his daughter was going out with Mark Bright at one point.

21st April 1992, 1-1 v. Charlton. We were relegated two games later but I came back for more.

I remember that game.  We thought we'd won it then let in a dreadful goal from a cross that Grewy should have come for late in the game.
