Port Vale fans, ay!  The owners show ambition and splash the cash to IMPROVE the football club, and they are met with reactions like I’ve seen on here and on Facebook. I know, let’s go back

I've done a bit of research on Rooney & he seems like an impressive chap, especially aged just 31. He's had a few stints at football league clubs in coaching roles, starting out in the Blackb

I expected this kind of reaction - disappointing as it is!  Firstly - it's not "we" who must have "some coin"...it's the owners. So it's up to them where it gets spent. If they believe - as many

Wouldn't even have the remotest idea of a wage. maybe 35 to 40 grand ?

I keep expecting to read that Carol has won the Euro millions.

Where are we getting all this money .

Sinclair x 2, Pugh, Crosby, Griffith, Paynter, New fitness guy and now Rooney.

That is some wedge

Why Sinclair x 2?

Sinclair, Griff & Billy running the U18’s and below.

Pugh, Crosby and P/T fitness buy supporting the 30 pros we have.

New bloke overseeing all coaching operations throughout the club.

Doesn’t sound too heavy in terms of numbers to me.

I’m not quite sure what a head of coaching is

If they believe - as many of us do - that the Vale have just been coasting along, both in coaching and fitness with a little lack of professionalism, over the last few years, then it's nice to see this being addressed. Have you seen his CV? Do you not think this is another positive appointment then what do you want? To continue bumbling along, with players lacking fitness and a plan B because they're not being coached properly? Incidentally - isn't the new fitness guy a replacement, rather than an extra?

Also - I suspect Head of Coaching is...ummm...the Head of Coaches?

Bit pedantic Lancy.

We refers to Port Vale not me, the fans or The Shanahans.

It's purely an opinion that we are top heavy with them, that is all, not my crusade against anybody.

Very pedantic - like I said, I was expecting that kind of reaction to what should be news of a very good appointment. I know "we" means the Vale...but some on here seem to take it very personally when our owners decide to splash the cash on something that should be an improvement - like the reaction when DF became DoF rather than Manager.

"Top heavy"?? How many should we have? If you said 3, maybe that's the reason we have underachieved? Maybe we needed 4? If you said 2 maybe we needed 3? Is there an ideal number of coaches a professional club should have? Or is it a bit trial and error? Maybe bringing in new ideas from people who seem to be perfectly well qualified to offer those ideas can only be a good thing?

Or, maybe, somebody will complain we should cut back on the number of food parcels we send out?

Who knows?

Seems about right really. The reality is Smurfwaite cut the coaching staff to the bone and Carol is funding it back to decent levels.

Who is funding it? Why us, probably the fans in addition to the owners. Smurfwaite took so much money out of the club and it is great to feel that every penny we spend goes back into the club.

The only sad note is that I’m sure John Askey looks at the structure and wonders why he could never work under such backing.

Askey never questioned fitness/coaches how things were being done.

askey was part of the problem

We've been rotting for 20 years and although it seems like a lot of staff it's probably not we are a professional football club that has had 3 or 4 blokes looking after the whole set up
