Who to sign for next season?

He's had two great games against us this season.
With the financial damage from the pandemic and the squad size limitations, this summer is a great opportunity for a club like Vale, in need of a big turnover and with financial backing, to go poaching and pick off a few weaker recruitment rivals. No more Macc castoffs, I'm sick to death of the dearth of tinpotters in this league with quality signings when we pick up Whitehead and Robinson, it's mental.

He has, that block in the away game from Robinson 6 yards out onto the bar was outstanding.

He’d be a decent partner going forward for Smith I reckon.

I assume a couple of Walsall lads may be the target though. Doesn’t Clarke always take that fella with the huge beard around with him?

Although I thought Guy did well when he was here, do players tend to play as well when they come back?

Look at Theo Robinson... oh wait he didn't do anything the first time around.

But every year we always suggest getting ex players back and I can guarantee this thread will see many more posts about wanting ex players back. Lets broaden our recruitment. Askeys downfall was bringing the players he knew....

Yeah been with him at previous clubs, getting on a bit now though?

I may add more later.I just wanted to put it out there to start people thinking about who could be out there to massively improve our squad.

As for Delap he is only 18 and probably not ready for the Championship. A year in the second division would toughen him up.

Taking Rory Holden from Walsall as competition for Taylor/Worrall or out and out RW when Worrall is switched to the left would appear to be a decent signing.

Hasn't played much and they paid a fee for him in recent memory. Plus we'd have to pay a 123761524% mark up in price if he is under contract for them to sell him to Vale.

We do what we want.

That Millar who was on the wing for Liverpool U21s in the tinpot trophy looked quality but unfortunately we've missed the boat on that one, just found out he went on loan to L1 in January. That's the sort of loan addition I'd love us to supplement with next year.

After reading through the retained list , I am of the opinion we get rid of all the players out of contract, try to move on Robinson and Whitehead. The I would offer 12 month deals on sensible deals which improves their salary on games played to Pope, Legge, Monty and Manny.

So we will need to sign a lot of players for next season, so I have had a small look to see who I think could improve our squad. The following list are of players I believe whose contracts expire at the end of this season.

Goalkeeper:-

Ian Lawlor Oldham age 26 6'4"

Defenders:-

Daniel Happe Leyton Orient centre half age 22 6'5"

Connor Wood Bradford left back age 24 5'10"

Midfield:-

Harry Pell Colchester centre midfield age 29 6'4"

Abo Eisa Scunthorpe left winger age 25 5'11"

Striker:-

Paul Mullin Cambridge age 26 5'10''

Kyle Wootton Notts County age 24 6'2" (still has 1 year on his contract so might need a fee to sign him if Notts County do not get promoted back to Division 2)

To also supplement the squad I have identified the following players we could perhaps get on loan:-

Nathan Bishop Goalkeeper Man Utd age 21

Con Ouzoundis centre half Everton age 21

Liam Doyle defensive midfielder Liverpool age 21

Liam Delap striker Man City age 18

Obviously I would hope that the Premier League clubs would subsidise the wages.

Rayner, I can only admire you’re knowledge of lower league players, but looking at how tall the players you’ve mentioned are, we’d look like a basketball team.

Players released from league 1 clubs. I consider the gap between league 1 getting bigger with league 2. The clubs that went up last time have not done well. That suggests a bigger gulf in standard meaning released league 1 players may shine in league 2.

Our big mistake in recent years has been getting players released from league 2 or non league. I know finance was a factor but you can’t expect the club to do well when you take on players midtable league 2 clubs don’t want.

Most recent examples, Guthrie and Robinson. Yes Manny, Legge, Conlon and Rodney are all good examples of unwanted league 2/conf cast offs who have done well, but generally our whole squad is full of less successful efforts.
