Sheldon Report on child abuse in football

Right, how to word this..

Last time I saw Dario he was knocking about with a young lad who now plays for Chelsea u21s. Dario came to my work frequently with the lad who was a 14 year old blonde lad then ( roughly 2016ish) and I had obviously heard the rumours but decided to take things at face value. The way he acted with the young player was inappropriate and they were giggling together like they might have been 14 yr old boy and girl in a new relationship. Dario let the lad have a go of his Aston Martin on the car park. I asked Dario about the young players credentials as a player and was shocked to hear that  he had failed his first trial bur Dario called him back for a 2nd trial because and I quote "i thought he had great legs". Now if this was anyone else you might just brush the comment off as a bit weird but combined with the rest of the weirdness just did not paint a pretty picture.  I dont know what his parents thought about it but I never saw them, I mean they must have heard the rumours. I reckon that player was the last one Dario had anything to do with jusy hope it was nothing more than being a super weird uncle type of character.

Top and bottom is is the bloke is a weirdo at best and unthinkable at worst. Banned from football is the bare minimum he should have got.

And you know what he might have been a football genius but now he will be known as what he also is.

The Crewe fan site is a disgrace. The worst accusation is Dario was naive. He was also a scapegoat apparently. Apparently we should read Peter morses newspaper article as that gives a fairer picture than the sheldon report. You couldn’t make it up.
oh and we are judging him by today’s standards and things were different back then. And so it’s the presses fault really. I’m pretty sure everything that happened back the was as illegal as it is now.

Crewe statement.

https://www.crewealex.net/news/2021/march/club-statement---sheldon-review/

The club acknowledges the findings of Mr Sheldon QC that, notwithstanding the club may still not have got to the truth of any matters at that time, more could have been done to monitor the situation concerning Mr Bennell.

The club is truly sorry if there were in fact any warning signs that ought to have led the club to do more.  Had the club had any suspicion or belief that Mr Bennell was committing acts of abuse, either before, during or after he left the club’s employment, the club would have informed the police immediately.

The club wishes to make it absolutely clear that it sincerely regrets and is disgusted by the terrible crimes committed by Mr Bennell upon many young footballers over a significant number of years.  The despicable abuse committed by Mr Bennell was abhorrent and the club continues to have the deepest sympathy for the victims and survivors of Mr Bennell.

The club fully understands the additional hurt and trauma to the victims and survivors of Mr Bennell which has been caused by the fact that no one at the club was aware of the offences being committed upon them at the time.  The club wholeheartedly regrets and is sorry to every survivor of abuse that it was unaware of Bennell’s offending.

The report of Clive Sheldon rightly acknowledges that for most of the period of Mr Bennell’s and others’ offending there was little or no guidance on child protection available to those working in sport or society in general. The club acknowledges that awareness of child protection matters and systems of safeguarding in football and in society have now improved considerably and safeguarding has become an integral part of the club’s everyday life.

The club acknowledges however that improvements to safeguarding can always be made and the club accepts the recommendations made by Clive Sheldon QC to ensure our safeguarding procedures remain as robust as possible.

The club also acknowledges the contributions made by all individuals to the report of Clive Sheldon QC and reiterates its deepest sympathy to all those victims and survivors of Mr Bennell.

If it looks like a duck swims like a duck and quacks like a duck there's a fair chance it's a duck.  In Gradi's case it looks like he's be complicit by failing to report, allowing Bennell to use his house and not checking up on his activities.  He is either extremely stupid or complicit.

Yet the report says, ""It is likely that three directors of Crewe Alexandra FC discussed concerns about Bennell which hinted at his sexual interest in children."

So who do we believe?
