Good win, and credit to Clarke for changing it when the game looked to be getting away from us.

Battered them first half and played some good stuff, should of been further ahead, second half we got penned back and their system change caused us problems but the game after an hour stagnated and we managed to wrestle back the initiative.

Once Dave scored the winner we pretty much controlled it and the change bringing on Brisley saw us see it out unusually comfortably for Vale!

Bar the 20 minutes after HT I thought we were excellent.

Need to follow it up with a result Saturday now, win that and we are probably almost there.

Manny, Monty and Wozza back is a boost, keep them fit, add in the holy one and we should be ok.

Brown 6 a great save if he turned that shot onto the bar second half ,no chance with goal but other than that nowt do thanks to fantastic organised display from all team in front of him .

Mills 7 links the play well with Worrall and a steady good nights work at back.

Smith 8 outstanding had a really good game involved in winner then along with Legge and all other player saw game out .

Legge 8 outstanding did a fine job .

Montano 8 loved his first half display so positive ,pounding the floor when they scored but like all the team did well defensively second half when under increasing pressure .

Worrall 9 two assists he truly is a fantastic player so instrumental in what we do

Conlon 8 first half tremendous lost his way second half but dug in and did his defensive role well .

Oyeleke 7 ran out of steam and replaced but it's great have him back I'd rather have 45 mins of his excellence than 90 of a inferior player .

Joyce 7

Rodney 7 played better as game wore on big goal though that ,feel there is more to come from him .

Robinson 7 thought he did ok he needs a goal but he put a shift in like everyone else .

Subs

Brisley 7 saw us over the line .

Amoo 7

Wouldn't argue with you there mate.  Clarke? Not a ten. A bit slow to react to their changes at HT. An 8 for me.  Good on him for going 4-3-3, a system that suits our current squad.

Hats off to the lads tonight, however I stand by that clarke is not the right man for the job, this is a plaster on an axe wound and I wouldn’t put it past him cocking it up from here #UTV

Smallsall next 3 - Bolton, Southend, Grimsby.

Interesting. Very interesting.

I would love it, love it, full on Kevin Keegan style, if Southend stayed up at the expense of rapidly sinking Smallsall. Small town in Cannock yam yam soap dodging bstards. I would sacrifice a close super Vale away day quite happily to watch Highways Agency Utd slide into non-league and disappear forever. Crawley's 97th minute penalty tonight was as funny as that Swansea dive against the shìt last week.

In recent seasons I've begun to understand the deep hatred for the soap dodgers inset in the older Vale fan demographic, and I now consider them a bigger target than Crewe. Crewe is a banter day out selling their ramshackle shed out for them and goading the unfortunates in the Gresty creche end, Smallsall actually has some historical meaning in beating them.

As great as it would be to be stood in the paddock next season chanting Clarke's name at the mutants as Vale score a fourth, I put it to all of you that Clarke jumping the sinking ship, keeping Vale up and Smallsall consequently going down, is infinitely funnier.

BROWN - 8 - nothing to do but good save if he tipped the volley onto the bar, helpless for the goal, could he catch a cross? that would be good.

MILLS - 8 can't knock him really. distributed much better, position and link up play improving

LEGGE - 9 great performance again, fantastic leader. gets rolled for their goal and leaves Monty and Smith stranded? harsh but his only mistake

SMITH - 9 warrior, underrated, solid again. gets stuck in and extremely fit, nearly scored the 2nd himself

MONTY - 9 absolutely brilliant, great attacking and solid tackler, didn't fade and fights for the cause every time

CONLON - 9 great goal, crisp and deadly finish, great composure too. back to his best and distribution much better

JOYCE - 8 lost for 10 mins at the start of the 2nd half, but when we changed shape he was comfortable again

MANNY - 8 faded towards being subbed but that's understandable, he's clearly got the touch and the whole package for this level and showed it in parts again.

RODNEY - 8 good finish, still looking to find his feet, battled hard

WORRALL - 10 THE. MAN. IS. A. BEAST essentially two assists, tackles back, skill on the ball, crossing, shooting the guy has it all.

ROBINSON - N/A No criticism, it's all love.

I don't know who it was and i'm not taking away the right to an opinion. But a while back someone despite Worrall being second to KDB in the entire country for assists still wasn't happy as he doesn't score enough goals .

Worrall since Askey gave him a chance after he was jettisoned by Aspin has been a revelation.

His work rate and energy are absolutely pivotal to our team. Even on an off day and he will have many of those, he still goes off having left every drop of energy on that pitch.

Bearing in mind he had a scan a couple of weeks ago he's maybe been rushed back and asked to give it a go by Clarke. He destroyed Oldham last week but nobody was prepared to gamble and again last night a brilliant display.

Down on his haunches , we are all thinking oh no here we go  again, he gets up cracks on with it and sets up the winner. He must be absolutely cream crackered this morning after that display of commitment.

But....he doesn't score enough goals apparently !!

Superb Worrall , absolutely brilliant display with pride in the shirt.

Yep I’m one of the older demographics when the Walsall game was considered a big west mids derby game, regularly good crowds for league games, (can remember around 12,000 for an FA cup game). Pure hatred from both sets of fan, reflected by events in and around Burslem and on hamil road. So for me would love to see them relegated into the abyss!!!!

Ps before anyone scoffs I meant a big west mids derby game for us lower down the midlands footballing pyramid!!!!
The days when anyone dreaming of playing the Wolves or the Baggies in a league game would need medication, never mind beating them. But the wheels of fortune spun, and then spun again, how long to wait for the next spin.
