I like Scottish football , and espn is showing the Championship here . Nice to watch the likes of Ayr Utd and Queen Of The South , even without ( small) crowds . Arbroath looks a cold spot from watching . Right on the North Sea. Have Vale ever played there preseason?

Vale played Queen of the South in pre season maybe 25 years ago or even longer.

Stayed the weekend in Dumfries and I'm sure if my memory is correct a few Vale fans had a kick about on the pitch .

The ground reminded me very much of Mansfield back in the day before improvements

Yes, that was on a Saturday and there were a few Vale fans there.

We'd also played at East Stirling the previous Tuesday night - there weren't many (other) Vale fans there for that one! That was the week of the 'mustgetbeers' when Rudge sent 4 players home for breaking a curfew.

I find the Old Firm tedious but if you look beyond that, Scottish football is quite entertaining. As Craig Levein would say, it's a good laugh, isn't it?

A View From The Terrace on the BBC Scotland channel on Friday nights (and the iPlayer) is a great show.

Didn't Vale play Aberdeen in a friendly a few years ago? Or am i dreaming that it happened?

I'm sure we played a Scottish team at VP and it was a boring pre season 0-0

Aberdeen won 1-0. Think they got a late penalty.

We also played Hibs (I think) at Newcastle Town's ground, mid-nineties.

As Hobblesworth said we lost to a last minute penalty. My mate is an Aberdeen fan so I was very interested in the result, long time ago now but I'm pretty sure it was a dive.

I also was at that match. My lasting memory was that sometime during the game, a local walked into the ground and stood with his mates who were next to me.

"What's the score" he enquired and was informed it was 4-0. "Who to" he responded, to which his pals burst into fits of laughter! (or was that East Stirling?)

I also saw Vale at the now sadly defunct Clydebank sometime in the mid/late 70's. That one we lost 3-1.

But on the actual product, a friend of mine loved Scottish football, especially the lower leagues, which he quite accurately described as "exciting rubbish"
