Leading Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has confirmed that images of him sitting astride a dead horse are in fact real.

The obscene image of Elliott, trainer of dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll, has been circulating on social media recently exhibiting an unprecedented lack of compassion and unprofessionalism. Would you trust your horse with this trainer? Should he be banned?

Your thoughts?

Certainly looks in bad taste.

I'm struggling with the idea that anyone who genuinely loves animals would ever be in that situation.

I don't know the guy though. Don't know his character.  It's one snapshot of one moment in his 42 years.  If its genuinely out of context with his character then no, I don't think he should be banned.

That's social media for you. One moment like that and, potentially, it's all over for you.  And I don't feel comfortable about that one bit.

If I was going to trust him with an animal of mine I would like to think I knew his character well enough first.

I saw his statement before the picture and was initially inclined to believe it.

I then saw the picture, and they don't tally up.

Why the fck would you sit on it, and additionally why would you be semi-smirking at the camera if you were "gesturing at a colleague who'd shouted while [he] was on the phone" as he claimed?

Yeah, it would take a certain sort of person.

It's bad.

He tried to wriggle out of it initially with lies and deceit, was even suggested his head had been superimposed onto the picture in the media.

He's been found out and to save face has come out with his apology.

Incredibly crass, I can't for a moment see any remotely funny side to having a picture with a dead animal. Whether it's a hedgehog you have unfortunately ran over or in his case an animal he purports to ' love ' .

Utterly disgusting behaviour

I got sent a few bits and pieces that are being forwarded round Whatsapp. It seems he has a bar at his stables where he has been flouting lockdown rules and hosting boozing sessions that degenerate into brawls. He's generally up to no good.

What a dirt ball. First denying it all over the place. Then oh it's a fair cop, an error of judgement.  Boo hoo. This is a pathetic excuse. If you had any respect at all for the animal, who here would sit on the poor beast to make a mobile call? That is not an "error of judgement" it is indicative of the level of respect he has for the animals under his care.

He's only banned in the UK. Not Ireland.

Disgusting piece of scum. We keep getting told of owners love for their horses. Even multi-chamions, theyget a last run, last payday. One of the reasons I finished with the horses. This f8cker reminds me of those big-game trophy hunters. If I had a horse with him it would be outa there quick smart. Tw8t
