Rip Glenn Roeder

Recommended Posts

I think that Glen had suffered ill health for a number of years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour dating back to his West Ham days.

A ball playing central defender, he probably lacked the pace to be a top player, but his comfort on the ball made him easy on the eye.

Despite his unnasuming nature he appeared in 500+ games before turning to management, most notably with West Ham & Newcastle.

Roeder was a lovely player - a ball playing centre half at a time when they were a rarity.  An underrated manager as well.  Anyone who has never seen the Roeder shuffle should have a look at this!
