Match Thread: Salford City v Port Vale

I think we should go with Rodney and Guthrie for this one. Rodney for the obvious reasons, our best striker with a point to prove and Guthrie because he wins us free kicks in dangerous areas and works better with Rodders than anyone else. Hoping for a win but the only thing I'm sure of is a betting on under 2.5 goals will be printing money.

Yes find a way score goals if Kevin Francis the bean pole could get on the end of things then why not a centre half turned striker, also they may head it down to the other striker if we doing long throws etc, you need players with height and strength to get on  the end of them he looked tall to me well find a use for him as the other day Mills put a ball in Foyle Naylor ,Lee Mills ,Ron Futcher ,Pope would have being on the end of where were our two strikers  I have no idea they play like they are scared of being hurt ,never see a ugly goal from any of them this season a get in there goal where they get hurt because they are so damn up for it and so motivated to score .

Question for you or anyone who doubts my post as anyone up front the last two home games done something you could say was remotely good ?

You know the answer as I do NO .

Find a way play other folk ,try something different ,a goal will give us confidence ,play winners not players who are  HIDING and contributing very little and are getting us staring down the barrel of non league football if results do not improve ten fold

UTV

I will have to politely disagree... the forwards do more than score goals. Sticking someone up front that doesn't play there would lead to us being pegged back and facing the Alamo for 90 mins as any ball we play upfront is intercepted and played back into our half.

I understand the concept of trying something new... but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Also Rodney will get sold for money in the coming years. To say he "is not a striker in a million years" may be a little sensationalist.

Fair enough reply hope the boy wonder starts to score big goals the ones that win games or ones which give confidence to all the other forward players then the midfield will flourish then and not take a extra touch when passing as then they know when they release the ball to the forward players they will have the ability go past there defender something I have failed to see since Clarke has  taken over he certainly did ok under Askey but has yet to show Clarke what he can do

I don't think anyone is saying he's a boy wonder mate. All 3 games under Clarke we have been cautious and seemingly reluctant to be attack minded.

He's still our top scorer and he frustrates the hell out of everybody I'm sure. I myself made a comment saying he needs to use his strength better. Too often when he's one on one situation on the pitch he gets out muscled yet he's a right unit.

For me it's a team thing, can't just rely on him to notch.

About time Burgess, Hurst and Guthrie also got their scoring boots on .

I don't think there's any doubt that tomorrow won't be pretty

I’d prefer to see Rodney out wide (think he’s more dangerous there) or not as our main man up front, issue is until pope is fit I don’t think the others are good enough.

Good point Cullen last scored first game of season in league who would have 29 games later not a goal very few appearances yet he has shown over past  seasons  (not this )that he can score .

Robinson has goals in him yet whenever I've seen him play apart from Salford at home funny enough when he come on as a substitute he was excellent on that occasion, he seemsnot at at it at all .

Swann you cannot judge on one half and a short cameo v Tranmere and a few mins v Cambridge so a unknown quantity.

Guthrie first few games was impressed with his team play but as soon as he missed that chance Saturday he never really recovered from it yet I thought along with Rodney was excellent first 20  ,the game lasts for 90 mins though .

Rodney already told you what I think of his recent performances, he is better on the wings cutting in love it if he played a blinder though tomozillbe watching and I want my players ram my words down my throat I do not want to be proven right on lack of guts in I'd say 6 out of starting 11s .

We ain't 20th because we any good thats for sure.

I have to say, I do enjoy Clarke's press conferences.

Me too tells you how it is and you can tell he ain't happy with some things  what Askey let the players get away with and I agree a footballer should be athletic and be able cover all blades of grass .

Like him you give the hell Clarke lad because we would if we had chance and there away end would be full of us tomozfor sure so goaaaaarrrnnn the Vale and Clarkey picking a winning team

I think Clarke thought we would have won a game and be cruising with a more confident team by now. He seems to be lashing out a bit at the lack of quality, lob-sided squad depth and injuries. Not that he’s wrong at all, but he seems a little bit ruffled. Let’s settle the nerves tomorrow!

1:10...he is a bit standoffish isn't he?

Fair and play. I wouldn’t want my contract discussed in public.  Specially in football where they are so different from the bloke doing the same job as you.

Speaks very well. Answerers are measured. Talk is cheap with anyone linked to vale though as we all know too well throughout the years.
