After watching walsall tonight I'm not that worried they are awful if anyone is going to get caught it will be them. A couple more wins and we should be safe

That spooned free header from the free kick at the end was the moment. Southend actually looked pretty decent in their build up play but like us, nothing up front. Smallsall looked dreadful.

Meltdown on the Walsall socials.

They've not won since Clarke left them in 11th place. Obviously, he was about to be sacked anyway.

State of Vale 🤣 paying us 🤣 compo 🤣 for him 🤣

curb your enthusiasm etc etc.

Apparently Chris Turner, ex Vale Sales and Marketing Manager, is their new DoF???

Last DoF job was at Chesterfield, where he was made redundant after overseeing the assembly of the squad that led to consecutive relegations out of the football league.

They think Pimlott is killing the club but Clarke was also a fraud with his top half finishes and whatnot.

Unfortunately Southends incompetence in the box + Sam Hart getting binned tonight has probably just about seen Smallsall safe barring a miracle. The gap is pretty big, and Colchester are a rapidly accelerating brick.

I will deem that acceptable on the basis that they are our first home game in August in front of a packed out VP, and that they get relegated next year instead of now. Smallsall away with Clarke in the dug out and Vale on three sides of the ground has phenomenal potential for mirth tbf.

Relegation would be sweeter, but finishing above them would still be sweet.

Why are we trying to start a rivalry with Walsall? I literally have no feeling towards Walsall or their fans.

Yes, I get their might be some sort of historic rivalry but this Clarke stuff is a bit childish on both sides.

They were happy to see him leave and hopefully we will be happy benefactors. That’s it.

Southend don’t score goals, although we seem a rare case of a side that’s actually really took them apart since November time.

Grimsby winning is a slight worry and they host Walsall next... draw there wouldn’t be the end of the world but on the flip side Grimsby’s last ten games sees them face 6 of the Top 9, Walsall and us at Home and away trips to Bradford and Oldham.

Colchester losing the lead is good, 1 win in 21 so hopefully them and Walsall drop further and we push on.

I'll save gloating until when we mathematically can't go down.

The fact that some fans are gloating about potentially finishing above Walsall and staying up in League Two says it all about this season and this club at the minute.

Not where we are, where we’ve been led. Now we’re being taken back in the right direction.
