Match Thread: Port Vale v Cambridge United

Cambridge might be top but they're only about seven points from falling out the playoffs (going by memory)

Yeah it’s tight and they’ve played more games than anyone else... about 5 more than Carlisle!

Tough game it’s obvious where their threats are so keep it tight is a must and try and nick a goal or two.

They have been mixed lately good 3-0 win at Mansfield, 0-0 at home to Southend and a 0-1 at home to Cheltenham and 1-4 pasting at Salford.

Worse form than us over 4 games and oddly Skybet have us favs

Listening to DC’s match preview, he doesn’t seem fazed by them and we certainly shouldn’t be. From top to bottom this league is rubbish, they’re just the least rubbish at the moment and any day they can be beaten.

DC interrupts every question he’s asked before the interviewer has finished speaking, it’s a bit awkward and bullish but hey he obviously rates himself.

He goes off on Askey in a big way too, worth a listen.

Bowers must of hated every minute of that interview

Oh well just read the pre match interview seems very UP for it let's hope theres more quality about the Vale tomoz and I do not want to hear DC after the match saying we lack quality so its over to the players selected to get the first goal and then pass and move with authority ,like how he notices everything us support notice Crookes has to improve his distribution ten fold and come think of it so do all the defensive players ,Smith has joined in over the years in somegamesi mean v Oldham away he did it he started a move and finished it by heading just wide ,that's what you got to do in games is pull players out of positions, make angles etc make sure you are getting in positions to hurt the opposition .

So in light of what he as being saying this is the team .

          Brown

Gibbons Legge  Smith Crookes

            Burgess Conlon

Taylor           Rodney       Montano

                 Cullen (Swann or Guthrie)

At a guess I think Joyce and Worrall not going be fit by what he was being saying I think he might move Rodney to the wing where he probably is more effective and play two others up front ,who I have no idea so for that alone will wake up early to watch it .

As Robinson being impressing during training is Guthrie going be reinstated ,Cullens little cameo the other night was ok is he going get the nod or do we just play one up front and his speed of Swann be the difference but no good playing the ball in the air then in fact in my opinion apart from corners I wouldnt play the ball in the air period at all .

Like see us winning free kicks around the opposition penalty area as we all know Conlon has the quality curl one in the top corner .

We will see let's have those 3 points Vale that's all that matter comes 5 to 5 do justice to the shirt and yourselves .

UTV

I cant see DC playing Taylor after his performance against Stevanage... I love Tylor, but it was way waaaaaay below what we know he can deliver.

I think he plays well with Burgess and we did in fairness once they both got used to there roles assigned to them do ok last 20 together v Stevenage and I think if Taylor who has undoubted quality works on his final ball for a hr before kick off he will deliver a telling ball r maybe curl one into the top corner, and I certainly hope Burgess if selected has a pop at goal this time go IN.

UTV we will see shame we cannot attend we  would roar  them home and the points would defo be ours

Can't see anything other than a Cambridge win today. Mullin and Ironside will be too much for us.

Wasn't long ago we were playing them off the pitch in a comfortable 3-0 win.

Another club in a long list we've fallen behind now.

What’s the difference between them and FGR and Cheltenham who we’ve taken points off down VP (both would be above on PPG)?

It’s not unwinnable, we pumped a free scoring Luton as well down here and Swindon last season.

Let’s hope we have another where we turn up against a high flyer.

There is little more say on the match thread in my opinion.

How badly do we we need the points ,I'd say very badly ,let's see what the players play like and think .

The time for talking has stopped if they the players were happy with there efforts on the ball v Stevenage then they must be on a different planet than me .

BIg improvement required today hopefully I will sleep now till quarter to 3 and tune in and see a hunger about every Vale player (I do not mean eating five meat and potato pies and lying there and having there bellies tickled ,I mean that  the moment that whistle goes we give Cambridge HELL.

Nothing more say see you all later in the after match thread well this one .

GOAAAARRRRNNN the Vale

I love your optimism and wish I could feel the same more often! Maybe 20 years of following this garbage club has sucked the life out of me!

The bookies have us as favourites today!

The best way of winning these games is to go after teams from the off at home. There's not a big difference between any sides in League Two and usually comes down to just one or two players. If we sit back with a 'try not to lose" mentality then inevitably with the bit of quality they have up top they'll score sooner or later, and not only are you then left chasing the game suddenly but you've also given the opposition a bit more confidence. Away from home I'm fine with setting up to be hard to beat, but at home you should be going for it regardless of who the opposition are and where they are in the table.
