Match Thread: Port Vale v Stevenage

Some shocking performances out there today and worryingly all from our so called better players! Conlon, Taylor, Gibbons and Monty have all been dire. Conlon and Taylor look like theyre playing kids football. I think the formation is right, with this group we need to just be as solid as we can at the back as the quality just isnt there. Keep that back 5 and hopefully not concede many, because we certainly wont be scoring many! One positive from the night is the point and a clean sheet, although made worse by two good wins for Barrow and Grimsby! Infact Crookes was decent, as was Smith & Legge also they just need to learn not to smack the ball out at every opportunity. Odd sub to bring Cullen on for Swan, thought he did ok but would have though Guthrie would have been the choice with how the game was going. What an abysmal game of football, think the ball spent more time in the air or in the stands than on the bloody floor

Dear me. That is one of the worst games of football I have ever witnessed. Both teams absolutely dreadful. Taylor, Conlon, Gibbons and Monty all terrible. Rodney and Swan had nothing to go off except hoofballs so can’t blame them. Thought the centre halves all played well. With how badly we played I’m glad to take a point. Don’t think the formation particularly worked going forwards.

On a positive note, we looked defensively solid again for the second game in a row, and nice to have a clean sheet. Obviously something they’ve worked on because previously our defence was a shambles. At least we are now harder to beat.

Theres 16 games left and we are on 34 points. 16 draws from 16 games to get to the magical 50 anyone?

Has it finished, thought it was still playing and the commentators had given up.  At least it was a point and that is about it.

The side were not playing at their best and seemed to prefer hoofball rather than football tonight.

Both sides were poor really.

We look a lot more solid, but in order to become so we have sacrificed attacking intent.

Once Joyce went off our midfield was none existent with Taylor far too similar and lightweight to Burgess... as DC said, all our midfielders are too similar.

Back 5 defended well... but their distribution wasn’t great.

Midfield was poor.

Forward line had nothing to go off.

Looked like the first time we have played a system that got severely disrupted by losing the anchor defensive midfielder.

Quality is severely lacking.

Bring on summer.

Manny in the midfield would be night and day in this formation. It relies on at least one decent midfielder who is a good tackler, passer and chance-creator. Without him in a 532 we will get bypassed in midfield, especially against oh I don’t know... the league leaders perhaps.
